Rodgers compared him to Lampard. I do think we need a player like this. Since Fabregas and Nasri left, our midfielders have not got enough goals. Rosicky has started to make runs but his finishing is not consistent. Also he takes a brilliant free-kick. For the right price, I think this could be a great transfer for us.

According to other sources we have also been disappointed with his recent form and want him to replicate the form he showed ealier In the season.

Well....I realise I may get slaughtered for saying this but won't gylfi sigurddson stifle the development of some of our youth players. I realise we have to think of the present but while he is a good player we do have quite a bit of quality in the youth set up who might prove to be as good as him. I know I've vouched for an attacking mid but I had someone older and more experienced in mind because he will be despite his quality a bit of a gamble.

  4. Non of the above - at least none of them if we want to be serious challengers. They could all do a job if we wanted to battle for 3rd-6th.

kaka. could be possible. not getting tons of game time at madrid with ozil playing so well and a couple youngsters coming through. would be a great attacking midfielder behind v. persie

While it sounds like one of those pie in the sky rumours, it could actually work. He could sit in the role that Ramsey has been playing this season and I think he'd provide a much more incisive edge. He's well behind Ozil at the moment, so his game time is limited. If we did take him, I'd prefer it to be a loan deal with an option to buy, so that we can see if it works out.

Another 2 goals for Dempsey today. Said at the start of the thread, that we should get him.

  9. Who would he replace? And do you think he is good enough to move us up to compete with City and Utd?

Yes. The guy has been brilliant this season. 19 goals for Fulham. He would replace Chamakh and Park. He is also versatile. Plays anywhere across the front line. And I have even seen him leading the line for Fulham. He would add extra strength to our squad.

Dempsey's strength is as an attacking midfielder, making runs into the box that lose his marker, and finishing well. As a striker he has defenders more dedicated to marking him. He reminds me of Llungberg or even Lampard. He wouldn't improve the Arsenal team much though, certainly not enough to equal City and Manure. Why buy him when it would mean benching Ramsey, Rosicky and Chamberlain? Ramsey and Chamberlain will probably both be better than Dempsey in a year or two. If we buy an attacking midfielder it should be a real class act who is either incredibly good, or young enough to be incredibly good very soon, like Goetze, Kaka, Eriksen or possibly Sigurdson.

  12. I think he would be a 'so,so' addition not helping us improve at all. We'll continue to be miles off the pace if we sign players like Dempsey.

A 'so'so'. This guy has 19 goals for Fulham. Like I said at the right price, he would be a great addition. He adds strength to our squad.

19 goals for Fulham is exceptional!

We need players like him at our club. Even if he's a squad player, he's much better than our bench. Would you honestly have Chamakh and Park over him? And unlike those two, he's very versatile, so will get game time.

This would be the dream summer (But it won't happen)

    Out:

    Chamakh
    Bendtner
    Park
    Squillaci
    Almunia
    Benayoun (end loan)

    In:

    Dempsey
    Sigurdsson
    Podolski
    M'Vila
    Vertonghen

  15. It saddens me when Arsenal fans accept players as being great for our squad that would not have got a look in 5 years ago.

Also, he has a great work ethic. He has impressed me so much this season. Like you say 19 goals for Fulham is exceptional.

  17. There are too many Arsenal fans settling for mediocrity, both in terms of players and success.

Time to stop, and start talking about winning titles.

None of the players mentioned in the OP - including Dempsey - will do that for us.

Who would? Let's hear your suggestions. So far, you have not suggested a single name. Also those players in the OP, are the players that had been linked to Arsenal on the day I made this thread. They are not the only players I think we should go after.

  19. I wasn't having a pop at you - just don't like those suggestions. I have mentioned a few players in the past.

    I like :

    Goetze
    Vargas
    Hummels
Alvarez (if we could prise him away after missing out in the summer)
    Huntelaar
    Vertognen

I do like Podolski - but slightly worried by his approach to bringing about a deal.
I do think that Gylfi Sigurðsson is also worth a look as a squad player initially

We need to aim for top players, players that can help us win the title.

Goetze - Would be amazing, but he signed a new contract recently. But Shinji Kagawa has not and he only has two years left on his contract. We both agree on Vertognen and he wants to come to Arsenal. Huntelaar is a CF so not sure how he would work with RVP. Holland have that same problem.
