Maybe you'll have to tell me exactly what their position is, AFAIK it's that marriage must be between a man and a woman. What was it the Pope said exactly, you got the quote? Their position is that sex should only take place between married couples. Trouble is, hardly anyone, even catholics, abide by that. Reaction to ***** priests - at what point? The covering up was wrong - that was a reaction.
Telling people to stop having sex to prevent aids is worse than telling people to stop driving cars to stop road accidents. Have no doubt that people are dying right this minute because of the advice of the Catholic Church on condoms. The organisation fails on it's most basic of duties in human morality, and that was the thing it was supposed to do well.
Marriage is the sacrament. The recent furore was about bestowing that sacrament on same sex couples. The purpose of the sacrament is to reflect what is in the scripture. That is a union between a husband and wife. As far as I am aware, no comment was passed on the validity or otherwise of a loving Union between same sex couples. If hardly anyone listens to the guidance of the Church with regards to contraception, then you cannot then lay fault with that guidance for contributing to the problem. The leadership shown in the face of the scandal has been very good. The Pope, who I am not particularly a fan of, has demonstrated he is not just paying lip service to his commitment to clean things up. I am well aware of the problems in the Church. You mentioned earlier that I defend the Faith. I don't defend my faith at all. It is personal. I am not evangelising to anyone. I don't do that. I just think that if you are going to call an institution evil, you need to be absolutely sure of what you are talking about. You are not. Is the Catholic Church flawed. Certainly.
I don't know why that would be the case Paddy. When asked you could not give an explanation on how to put a condom on in the english language. I don't expect you would fare any better in Chichewa.
