It could be total rubbish but a lot of papers are reporting 2moro we are looking to offload Kuyt to trim the wage bill http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...Kuyt-as-club-try-to-trim-their-wage-bill.html Now I fully understood what FSG did last year, by offloading the dead wood, ie Jovanocic,El Zhar,Poulsen,Cole, etc that was just throwing money away.Players who were being paid by the club and not contributing anything. But its is fair to say that I am starting and quite a few fans are starting to worry quite a bit about some of the things FSG are doing Is Kuyt gonna be on mega money, no,probably I guess about £60k a week tops and hes only got 1 yr left, which for for a top PL player is nothing amazing, if we were to replace Kuyt( with Quality), the new player would probably want at least that much. When they first took over they mentioned the wage bill quite a few times, now I understand that but the fact is in this game, the best teams the ones who WIN, pay the most wages, now if FSG are true to there word, they will have top pay some players very, very good wages. For example if we are to have any chance of winnin the PL any time sonn, we are probably gonna have to pay 4 or maybe more guys £100k a week, if you dont wanna pay them wages, you aint gonna win.I also understand they MAY have to follow FFP, to me though I cant see FIFA/UEFA ever enforcing it, can you really see the likes of City,Chelski,PSG being banned from the CL,it aint gonna happen IMO.Also the squad doesnt need to be any smaller now, with EL next yr I think we may need 1 or 2 more players, not less. What I am saying is if FSG " WANT TO WIN",which they said they did, they are gonna have to pay some players BIG WAGES, its that simple. I am starting to worry that perhaps they dont want to win enough Added to that the dallying and lack of anything happening regards the stadium, which again is costing us money, and also I am hearing that FSG may have bought the club for only £220m,Questions have got to be asked, having cleaned up the balance sheet and reduced the wage bill already FSG seem to be starting to look like they want to avoid spending money at all costs, and to WIN in this sport you have too IMO So we need to trim wage bill.... No top 4 for a very long time then
I saw one rumour saying we would sell Kuyt for as little as 1million! Now of course we do not know if some real quality is coming in but to me it seems ridiculous to offload Kuyt at that price. Not too long ago the rumours were of 10mil, of course its all rumours but I could understand the latter, if its the former the transfer policy of recent times goes from the sublime to the ridiculous!
Dirk is finished as far as FSG is concerned, if they deem the current stock not good enough they will want to move em out to get in new players, letting em go cheap to free up the wages for a new player makes sense even if the transfer fee is very low. If this is true, and I have no idea if it is, a move like this indicates more than wage bill trimming, I think it would indicate strikers arriving in the summer. If we're gonna dign someone good, who will be paid fairly well, kuyts practical release at 1m will offset 60k of the new players wage bill. I would also like to think we are refusing to pay silly wages too
We might be taking 1m token fee because Dirk is getting to choose where he goes and its back to Holland.
Calm down! If Kuyt goes then we will get the best price possible for him - be that £1m or £10m. Unless, of course we have already agreed a discount price with another club from whom we are buying one of their players. ALL the rest is just paper speculation. The OP also worries about the new stadium. Whilst, I'm sure that plenty of work is going on on the various alternatives, it is likely that the main focus is presently upon the search for an organisation to whom to sell the naming rights. Any discussions with such a sponsor have probably been put on 'slow burn' as we will not have CL football again this coming year. But an FA Cup success may accelerate them again.
Dumb idea. We need experienced players like Kuyt. IMO Kuyt should start almost every game. If FSG looked around the PL they would see players like Giggs, Lampard, Ferdinand, Parker, Friedel, Drogba and Barry who are all older players who are very important to there teams success, even if they do not play every game. I personally think owners shouldnt be giving specific comments on who should be go in and going out of the playing staff (unless its an extreme situation, like they are seriously damaging the clubs reputation). They can suggest you cut the wage bill, and business stuff. But when owners interfere things go wrong.
I think if we let Dirk go it'll more down to the age policy than wages per se. If the agenda is to phase out the old guard then he won't get much playing time (we've seen this already this season). It doesn't make sense to pay players big money if you're not planning to use them, but if we bring in an effective replacement he will surely have to be paid about the same amount.
Where in the article was there a quote from either FSG or LFC that this was their intention? However, we have already seen comments from Kuyt's agent regarding a possible move to Roma. A bit of fishing here methinks.
So what does this mean for Gerrard and Carragher. Kuyt's bigger to the team than Carragher IMO, but he's untouchable.
Its also been said by Kuyts agent that he wants too stay, is this the club just tryin to get him 2 sign a new deal on say a lot less wages, say £30k a week Also if this is the policy SURELY Carra should go before Dirk, hes older, on slightly more wages, and next season especially will be further away from the team(IMO Dirks still our best RM),as the CBs get rotated less.If Kuyt goes, IMO Carra should be offloaded at whatever price we can get,and Danny Wilson be pulled back from loan on a 3rd of Carras wages!!!
Also my more Important was not so much on Kuyt, it was "Are FSG willing to spend the cash on wages to where we wanna be, we have no chance of ever competing for the PL, if all they seem to do is worry about lowering the wage bill" IF YOU WANT THE BEST, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT
I think the point is that Kuyt does not play every game and is nearer the end of his career. A younger model who will play every game would be ok for them with wages I think. What does Andy Carroll earn?
I am very confused. Here is a direct quote from you Chairman Tom Werner: 'I don't want to get the wage bill down, I want it to increase and we have the resources to do that - I just think we ought to be performing at a better level than we had been." As any good management team would understand (but then you do support Chelsea!), it's the value of the investment that is the prime issue and not merely the cost. Dirk is nearing the end of his career. Hence he is becoming more costly. Now come back when your side has truly seen the cost of hanging on to over-the-hill players with little residual value and then trying to replace them.
How have you come to the conclusion that trimming the wage bill means a lack of ambition/no top four? They will/have invested in players they think will bring value to the club. They obviously think Kuyt is past it so are saving money by offloading him and not paying out money on wages. That doesn't mean they wont spend on wages - they're a business. They're ensuring value for money and efficiency. Not sure about the stadium - but come on they've invested a lot since they've been here - this is somwhat ungrateful!!
there is a lot of specualtion here based on what was written in a paper. lets just start by saying that, a newpaper may or MAY NOT have written something accurately. start there, this is not tom warner or john henry saying kuyt has to go to reduce wages, this is a press report stating this may be thier attitude. next: how old is kuyt, what does he offer? can you move him on and get a younger faster man to come in for the same or less wages? should you move him on? has he one more year in him, is that year worth 3-4mil to you? these are the questions to ask.
More than a lot of the young players currently add. Which is why I dont think Kuyt's position should be handed over just yet. I wonder if any of this affects Bellamy.
It looks more like Kenny has decided Dirk's time as a first teamer is done. Obviously Dirk Doesn't want to accept that and would rather leave. Fair enough. I think this comes down to whether you want to rely on aging players to avoid some bad results, a la Chelsea post-AVB, or start giving players of the future the experience now. Because you can't do both. So Chelsea have simply postponed the inevitable until next season, when the replacements for Lampard, Drogba and the rest will be a season less experienced than the likes of Henderson and Kelly. FSG have broken wage records in baseball for some players. Their philosophy is not just to sign younger players. But when you have a lower wage bill throughout the squad you have more money to offer big stars who your main rivals are competing with you to sign. A team that has often complained about the spending habits of the New York Yankees, who two years ago swooped in and outbid Boston for Mark Teixeira, has abandoned fiscal restraint by making (Carl) Crawford the first player in Red Sox history with a contract with an average annual value in excess of $20 million. "Great move. Great player," said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, for whom signing free-agent left-hander Cliff Lee now takes on even greater urgency. "Boston's got the money and they had a need." Crawford also becomes the first Red Sox player since John W. Henry and Tom Werner purchased the team in 2002 to be given a contract of seven years. General manager Theo Epstein evidently made a persuasive case to Henry late in the process to do so. "When things come together the way we hope and expect, we'll be real satisfied," Epstein said Thursday. "You go into every winter with a Plan A, and sometimes it's hard to pull that off, then you move on to Plan B and C. http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=5901372
Sounds like a good idea to me. Kuyt has done well for us over the years due to his hard work but lets face it he has never been the most gifted of players. We lack quality in the final third which he has failed to provide and doesn't chip in with his fair share of goals anymore. I'd agree nows the right time to let him move on and let Sterling/Silva/Suso fight for his place.
