Ron you've got me thinking of other famous people from the Wycombe area. Just going on my home place of Hazlemere, I can think of the Little Mix girl, Luke Donald, James Corden and Swampy the eco-warrior. Any more?
Jimmy Carr was born and raised here, went to royal grammar school. Dusty Springfield lived here for a while.
I lived in Hazlemere for about 9 years, my sister used to live in Hazlemere, my brother lives in Hazlemere and my mother-in-law lives in Hazlemere. I wasn't aware of any of those you mention. The only one I can recall was the chap from Upper Green Street (I think) in High Wycombe and I've forgotten his name. Racking my brain I think his name started with "H" and he sang and played organ.
Howard Jones it was. Found this site with a few names on. Forgot Dusty Springfield (same school as my sister). Fern Britton moved in next to a friend of ours.
I don't think Jimmy Carr was born in Wycombe, he just went to the Royal Grammar School. Ian Dury and Matt Dawson also went there but I don't think were born locally either.
I may well be wrong, but I thought he was born and brought up in London and went to RGS. Isn't it a boarding school? Or least used to be if its not any more.
RGS in Terriers isn't a boarding school. Never was as far as I know. I assume you mean Royal Grammar School.
seems like Jimmy Carr went to both RGS and Burnham. Two more are Terry Pratchett and Heston Blumenthal, who both went to John Hampden.
That's right, RGS/Royal Grammar School. I think it does or at least did have boarding as I remember reading about Ian Dury being sent to live there.
I got Carr wrong, he went to rgs but was born in slough. Dusty springfield was raised in Wycombe but born in London I believe.
You're right Wandermagic. I do apologise. They have had boarding facilities for over 150 years. I'm amazed I didn't know that.
Charles Darwin is one of the most famous people EVER (in the whole world, not just these shores) & is also a Proud Salopian, born & raised in Shrewsbury.
How could you forget Jean Shrimpton recently the subject of a Docudrama played by the one with the legs from Dr Who?
