Also everyone this season has made a massive fuss and said English football is **** every time one of our teams has lost a game in Europe so while Chelsea are doing well I'm right behind them to prove everyone wrong. I remember that. Something like 5 penalties turned down in one half and eventually Barca nicked it at the end. That always seems to happen with English teams in Europe. Arsenal had it last season with Van Persie getting sent off for having a shot and they go on to lose their lead and the match and United had it the year before against Bayern Munich: they were winning until Rafael was bizarrely sent off and they went on to lose on away goals.
Not quite. It comes down to the draw itself and which day the team play on. In their contracts, ITV get the first choice pick of one Wednesday game, Sky get everything else. So if Chelsea are down to play their first leg on a Tuesday, then their second leg is a Wednesday - that means Sky have the first leg and ITV the second leg. This happened against Benfica. In the semi finals, it's the other way around. UEFA put Chelsea down to play Wednesday first leg and Tuesday second leg - meaning ITV get the first leg and Sky get the second leg. Once the competition is down to one British team, there is very little choosing left by the broadcasters. Next season however this is changing as ITV will have their first choice pick on a Tuseday and then Sky get everything else Tuesday and Wednesday.
After all the fuss they made about moving things like Coronation Street away from Wednesdays so that it would be their football night, and it meant they never need to annoy their biggest audience by moving the show to random times in the week, after all that, they're changing the day they have the football on? At least there won't be as many accidents at the breweries when they take over.
It's because the International qualifiers are being moved to Fridays and Tuesdays (rather than now Saturday and Wednesday) to please the club managers to get their players back quicker. Since ITV will be showing England on Tuesdays in the World Cup qualifiers, they wanted this to be consistent with their Champions League games too - meaning all their football will now be on Tuesdays (with the occasional Friday night). Therefore they asked Sky for the swap, and Sky agreed. So I think, although I am not sure, their Coronation Street on the Thursday will move back to Wednesdays. (Or is it the Friday? I can't remember and quite frankly don't care )
