I agree with you on the fish and chips but i do enjoy a pizza aswell but shouldnt be in same take away!

 

Ive lived in Leeds for 12 years and have never heard that. Every chippy Ive been in over here, I and other people ask for scraps.

 

Can any of you remember "Chesney's" down Albert Ave? All he sold was fish, pattie and chips nothing else. He was miserable as hell but his fish n chips were always lovely.

"Audrey's" in Brid opposite McDonalds is also very good.

 

They do call em bits in all the chippies near me. There's a chippy in huddersfield called wi' bits.

 

Aw Dorset,i feel your pain mate ! The number of posts youv'e made on this thread shows just how much you miss real Hull fish and chips. I'd send you some but but they'd be ruined by the time you get them.

Haddock,chips mushy peas scraps and salt and vinegar washed down with a nice cup of tea. Austins on Poland ave.It's not been there for long but it's my new fav. Piccalili anyone ?

Browns , Filey and they do Big Fish ... Yummy ... Salmon baked in t oven Melu , love it as long as it's sea salmon and not that farmed crap

 

Exactly a miserable fryer is all part of the experience.
And as for gravy. Some one will come on and say they put chip spice on chippy chips next!!

Mrs Rheinhold has set off for Cave St now!! Haddock patty chips and a carton of mushy peas. Bread and butters on the table. I've even cut em into triangle halfs, just to remind me of Gainsborough.

I have a place in west yorks now and i lived in crossgates for two years some 25 years ago. Also worked all over Yorkshire in my working life and they have always been called bits

 

Bryans and its Headingley - used to frequent that a lot...bit up market than your local chippy..

That Chinese run choppy on Newland does an ace fish fritter, but they always run out, either shows how good they are or they don't make bloody enough

 

Dont say that Billybob the worst fish n chips i have ever had was at Morecombe it was a chinese take away which should have set alarm bells ringing and the batter was RANK it was the same cack that they cover the sweet and sour with and the fish had been frozen as it had a really strong taste to it How bad was it if I worked for immigration i would have deported them lol
