I actually don't mind Cairney, he's a little slow but he's improving defensively. But I'm not a fan of Oli, not any more.
I was more aiming my point at the four defeats. I don't see why he needs to be defensive in all honesty, if his partner - Evans? McKenna? covers the defensive side of the pairing then he should be given the freedom to do what he does best.
I'm surprised people are even arguing this. It was undoubtedly a mistake not to use the other 4 or 5 fresh players during March and I'm 100% sure at the end of the season Nick will realise it was a mistake. The point is he is obviously very inexperienced, will make mistakes as every good manager has but he has to learn from them. I've no problem with him making mistakes, we've all done it in a new job / career, it's what you take from that mistake afterwards.
Sorry I thought I was post a new thread. Mind you, after reading through, the question is valid, with all that is going on should I bother?
I'm sure he'll phone you next season before every decision, just to make sure he isn't making any more mistakes.
Why would he do that? I never said he shouldnt make mistakes, in fact i literally couldnt have been any clearer in making the EXACT opposite point. It really does seem a recurring theme that you struggle to read. Is English your first language?
But Nick said almost the exact same thing word for word just before the January window and that window was as disappointing as ever. I'd agree with this. It's ridiculous that Cairney still hasn't made a real impact on the team. A player with his ability especially so young should have been guided to be one of our best players by now. Technically he is one of the best players in this league and that's the thing that's hard to find. There are hundreds of runners but you rarely see a player with Cairney's skill on the ball. I don't know who is to blame but he really should be a key figure in the team. If we lose him someone will give him some better coaching/guidance/whatever and we'll see what we've given away. Have to agree with this one. We are crap at rotation at this club. Other teams use different players for different games but we just have 11 who we like and the rest are all 'crap'. But how can players 'hack it' if they are given the odd 2-minute spell now and then? Simpson has had 2 sub appearances lasting a ridiculously short time and looked good in both, Cullen just gets thrown on expected to turn around a result in the last few minutes without seeing the ball, Oli gets on game and that's it but IMO the worst treated one is Cairney! He started the season as a regular and has hardly had a bad game since, he lost his place due to injury but why is he not back in now that we have no attacking threat from midfield? He was one of the best players against Southampton so we drop him. How can the lad win?! Garcia played at the last WC, he's got PL experience, he's been promoted from this league before alongside Nick and he still looked handy last season before his injury. These players just don't get a chance!
The one thing nobody seems to have mentioned in all this (unless I've missed it), is that if AP is saying there will only be money available if it's freed up by moving on some of the existing players (especially the big earners). then presumably it wasn't there in January either. I find it hard to believe that the offer of available funds in January would then be rescinded because NB chose not to use it at the time. All seems a bit strange but maybe gives us some answers as to why Nick has seemed to find all the criticism so difficult to take when he hasn't been able to share the reality?
Sorry but that's rubbish, McKenna and Evans were knackered weeks ago. If you're wanting to dismiss Cairney and Olofinjana as not being up to it (I'm not going to debate it) then you're effectively saying we'd reached a point where who ever played in those positions was going to be crap. When you have the choice of playing players who are crap because they're crap, or players who are crap because they're fatigued you always play the ones that are crap because they're crap. You have no choice about the performance in the game you're picking the team for, but by resting the fatigued players you let them recover and come back in a better condition for future games. All carrying on picking the fatigued players did was mean that every game he had to choose between tired players and players that aren't good enough. And rotation should have been made earlier in the month to prevent the situation arising in the first place. Cairney in for McKenna one game and Evans the next would have put Cairney alongside a player capable of picking up the slack for the defending knowing they were either going to be rested or had just had one, but the change wasn't made until they were already tired. And that's not hindsight, I think it was after the Blackpool game (if not it was after the 2nd game of the month) when I picked my team for the next game I said the wingers were rotated in order to keep all of them fresh for the busy month ahead. Rosenior and McKenna in particular haven't been looking sharp when I've seen them recently, they certainly seem to have dropped more than other players. Now I'm not saying that if 4 games ago we'd turned round and rested them (and a few others) for a couple of games that when they came back against Portsmouth and Coventry we'd have definitely won or drawn rather than losing, but we'd have had a better chance of getting something with some fresh players in the team.
