Everyone goes on about Mermaid in Morley but I can safely say it is fookin sch1te. I've lived in Leeds for 12 years so obviously like the plaice, but one thing they cant do here to save their lives compared to Ull is fish n' chips. Oh, and it defo has to be haddock, chips and scraps with brown sauce.
I know you're joshing here but you were always wrong about Killers frankly stunning wages. I know for a FACT what he was on in the Prem and wouldve been earning had he not taken the contract amend. Anyway, back to fish n chips....
My in laws are Londoners and they call them 'rows' , which I believe is meant to be 'rolls'. I know there are more important things to get wound up about but it doesn't half get on my wick. If you're from Ull it's a bread cake. End of.
good its not just me then its one of the few things that does my head in about living down south is the people who argue with me about the bread cake thing and the bloody mancs calling them balms whatever the **** that means haha oh and the confused look people gave me when i asked if they sold patties when i first moved down here tried to palm potato fritters off on me instead!!!!!!!!! lol
To be fair, you're an idiot for asking. Isnt Hornsea the furthest they've migrated? They dont even do proper ones in Brid. Actually, that's a point for discussion.....furthest from Ull you've acquired a proper pattie?
i was 20 and had never been out of hull i wast to know lol i think ive only ever had them in Hull and places like Brid Hornsea and i may be wrong but Witherensea and Scarborough
Chazz the one on Lorraine Street which was called Marlenas has been closed for many years but the sign is still up this one was the wifes local when she was a kid the chippy we use the most now is Hedon you always get a decent Haddock there. My funniest anecdote on a chippy was in my youth travelling the east coast in my MG Midget we would regularly stop at a chippy in the Hutton Cranswick area and order some Fish n Chips at this shop that was run by an old couple and the lady would drag the last word of every sentance out and i mean out always made us laugh. The chippy off Hessle road back of Raynors sticks out in my mind as one of the best and the only other place where they knew what a pattie was when we where in Carlisle.
i cant really remember i not been to scarborough since early 90's the only thing i have to do with scarborough is my grandparents surname haha
i didnt realise it was called that i used to go there on a daily basis as i hung around there for about 8 years all my mates (hull ones) are from there or still live there haha any idea why it closed??
I just want to apologise in advance for punching several of you in the face in my fight to get served at Dundee tonight.
Thats a shame, it was a good chippy. Another one I recall was Exmouth St Chippy off Newland Ave. Late 80's early 90's I used to go there regularly on a dinner time (not lunch time, Dinner) and they used to have a bowl on the counter full of onion and cucumber in vinegar and you helped yourself. Was lovely.
Reedy's, ye after staggering out of Grapes. It was ok not great tho. Bandstand is still there isnt it? Think they sell fish and chips now, bit of a battle going on.
yeah it want a great one i would only go there if Loraine st was shut haha and i not a clue about bandstand last time i was up was june i think and didnt look but it cant do worse then reeds from what i remember lol there used to be one my parents used to go on holderness road think it called mobys that was great choice
