Well it is a slow news day..

Futureheads set to light up SoL
Sunderland's very own Futureheads will be supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Stadium of Light this summer.

Sunderland's very own The Futureheads are returning home to Wearside this summer, in a supporting role for American music giants Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Stadium of Light.

The four-piece guitar band, who are Sunderland fans, have a long association with the football club, having previously graced the Stadium of Light in May 2005, performing a live set prior to the final game of the 2004-05 season, as the Black Cats lifted The Championship trophy.
Their top 20 single 'Beginning of the Twist' is blasted out before every home game as Sunderland's players walk out onto the pitch and is instantly recognisable amongst the club's loyal following.

The band met at City of Sunderland College, playing their first gig at Ashbrooke Cricket and Rugby Club in December 2000. They also performed at BBC Radio One's One Big Weekend, which was held in Sunderland in May 2005.

Singer and band founder Barry Hyde said: "I'm absolutely over the moon that we will be supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Stadium of Light. The stadium is an icon of the city and playing there will be a thrill and a joy for us."

SAFC commercial director Gary Hutchinson said: "This is the first time a local band has played a part in the concerts at the Stadium. To have The Futureheads supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers is fantastic news for Sunderland and is testament to the strength of our regional music scene.

"The band are great friends of the football club and have a real connection with us, which I'm sure will make their performance here at the Stadium of Light all the more special for everyone."

    Clever by SAFC.
Apparently ticket sales for the reet hot chilli pipers are sluggish. get a local band on to boost a few more. great for the Futureheads tho to play a big gig at home.
Got tickets for the Sprinsteen gig. That will be my only jaunt over there for the concerts.
There are plans tho to show some euro matches on the big screens etc in the bars etc. Good night last time until the football started (v Algeria 0-0)

Saw them live in Preston a few years ago when someone slung a shoe at them didn't really get it until they sang the howling song then they got another shed load of shoes slung at them. Good gig not too bothered about them on CD (nearly put vinyl there) but, live are very good.

Here it comes......I know one of them (name drop alert) None are really Sunderland fans (Jaff supports Everton) but I do see a couple of them attending home games from time to time.

My dream was always to play football for Sunderland, a close second was to be in a band and to play at the sol would be amazing.

I had heard none of them were Sunderland fans, which (in my opinion only before anyone criticises) is canny bad considering they are from the city.

    Don't like their music either!

I've got tickets for this event, and as I've never been to one of these kind of events before, I'm really looking forward to it. I've been brushing up on my Chilli Peppers by playingone of my sons CD's. I suppose I will have to brush up on my Futureheads as well now!

Went to see Oasis a couple of years ago and while they were good seeing them in a stadium for me was ****e would rather see them in somewhere like one of the academies, just my preference mind you might enjoy it.
