The Lord Line might cost a few quid to get back in service, it's not very well... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I agree, looks great btw. Particularly as the Deep is not too far away, which is already used for research I believe?
The bridge seems well under way, passed it last night. Be a shame if they can't do anything on some of the scrub land around the new Premier Inn.
It was supposed to be apartments and restaurants, but it all fell through after the bank withdrew funding and as a consequence, the grants it had secured were lost.
Don't read too much into it - it's Manor Properties - they have about 6 key redevelopment sites in Hull all unchanged since the day they bought them. They're a bit of a joke TBH... they buy land, draw up plans for the land, then say they don't have the money, but they'll build them if someone else pays them to. For instance, the site above, they're asking for £2.5 million from an educational body to buy the Lord Line Building off them and turn it into an educational building. They'll use the £2.5 million to cheaply build the flats then pocket all the money in rents off students. They've drawn up 'plans' for loads of sites in Hull over the last 5+ years, but so far nobody has been stupid enough to fall for their 'scams'. But it looks like somebody finally has.... step forward Hilton. Manor have also conned the European Development fund into giving them X-amount of money towards building the hotel for Hilton. But as it'll be improving a run down area of the city centre, we can't moan.
The area is being grassed/landscaped with a pathway and mini gardens until the economy picks up again.
I can't remember the bloke's name, but the guy who owns Manor Properties is notorious where I work. Often owes us money and can just be downright abusive when he's asked for it.
What needs looking into is the (malign?) influence of "Alderman" "Sir" Leo Schultz. As far as I can ascertain, his wife was a director - or maybe the chair - of Broady's....the people who ripped everything down, under the label Spacemade!!!!
If you mean DJ Broady's, they were a demolition company, they didn't actually chose what to demolish, they were just contractors.
Yeah, ok. But the fact that they knew what demo contract was coming up next, possibly enabled them to (a) tender for the job; and (b) have the necessary plant in place, gave them the ability to rapidly advance from a 'two-truck' haulage company, to the mob that levelled the city (along with Sammy Allon)..... ....could be 'looked at'?
I don't think there's much of a story there, the reason Broady's and Allon's got the demolition jobs in Hull, was because they were the only demolition companies in Hull. And now there's only Sammy Allon's.
Allons was the only one until the rise of Broadys. When the Schultzs faded, so did Broadys....... How come?

Just walked from center of Hull to Welton on the Transpennine Walk. Passed the derelict Lord Line Building. Does not look as if anything has changed in the last 2 years. If its the same Phil Akrill who went to Headlands in Brid then no surprises. Apparently, thick as two short planks at school.
