The chippy round the corner from me does scallops. As I live in West Yorkshire that's probably not a lot of use to you.

I thought the fish and chips at Maggies in Whitby were excellent.

The best ever shop I think was the one down Rugby Street off Hessle Road. When it was knocked down (late 80's I think, maybe wrong) I never found a beter. Followed the fryer and suppliers to other chippy's, but never, never as good. Why? :(

    Excellent <laugh>

Thinking about it I think it was called Magpie Cafe, not Maggies? Rick Stein said it was the best fish and chips in the country

It must have been The Magpie, it's in a class of it's own.

Trenchers serves good food, but it's too much like sitting in a McDonalds.

Salmon (oven baked). Marrowfat peas and two or three wedges!!!!
    Not my ****ing idea OK......
I'm on a diet until Sunday when I go on an all inclusive dogs bollocks holiday in Lanzarote. Even then I will not be eating many carbs. I'm cutting back on the carbs in food so that I can drink myself half daft on the Havana Club Seven and Cava without bursting out of my pants!

I live in Lancashire and there chippies are not in the same league as Hull Chippies. My personal fav is Lonsdales...fish special with mushy peas..£2.70 on a match day/night...although I have not lived in Hull for 30 years and its the only one I go to so my opinion is sort of irrelevant really

Magpie is indeed excellent but the queues can be a real pain. Trenchers and greens are also superb, although OLM isnt far wrong with the McDonald's comparison.

The one in brid is ridiculously busy but it is very good.

You don't know how hard life is until you've seen £16.50 for haddock and chips in a local pub! Even the chippy here charges £7.50 plus mushy peas at £2.00. £3.80 a pint now the ****ing tourist bastards have got here with their ****ing caravans and tandem bikes.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Haddock has been over-fished by them pesky Scandanavians which is why it's being replaced by cod in a lot of chippies.

Maybe we should start our own pressure group - SAVE OUR HADDOCK!!

Forgot all about that one. Is it still open? Used to go on a dinner if i was working round there. Harry Jacksons off Newbridge used to be good, Rosmead St i think. Pretty sure its shut down now.

you can take yer pick of top fish shops in west yorkshire for the best fresh cut style fish and chips. the chippy in west vale near halifax still does steamed suet pudding. not microwaved but individually steamed in a pan at the back
