I would have thought it was kind of obvious that La Liga is superior to the PL in England. It really requires very little argument. Even an average Spanish side (Bilbao), has made the best English team look pathetic. Surely the writing was on the wall with Ajax - they outplayed United as well. Chelsea are in the semi-final (despite being outplayed in both games by Benfica) - giving Barca a bye into the final.
Well if we're going by cup competitions, then an average Championship side (Crystal Palace) also made the best PL side look pathetic. So I hereby proclaim that the Championship is now better than the PL. Flawless logic there P.S. In 2009 when Lyon outplayed Madrid and knocked them out of the CL despite coming 3rd in the French league, did that make it the worst La Liga in living memory? Cos that would kind of devalue Barca's treble if so...
You have to take into account the CL is over two legs. Much more difficult to beat a superior team over two games (although it can be done by tactically outmanouvering them - see Jose Mourinho). Also you have to discount luck - which sometimes can play a big part in football - a superior team can be beaten because they are unlucky. My own team, Liverpool, won the CL in 2005; yet they were outplayed by Olympiakos and Chelsea en route to the Final. And in the Final we were annihillated by Milan - yet we still won! Football is probably the only team sport where you can completely dominate the opposition in all aspects of the game - and yet still lose. The fact that one side beats another in any given game doesn't necessarily make the winners better. Football is all about possession. The best teams keep the ball better than inferior teams. Because keeping the ball requires skill. The team with the most possession usually wins. But the beauty and allure of football is that sometimes, they don't.
Girls, girls... lets have it right. It is the Barclays Premier League which not only defines it to this country but also gives it the initials BPL so, in effect, your both wrong
To much is being said about that Athletico Bilboa game, we played mostly are reserves and younger players. Same as the league cup game. We were **** in the CL though but that was a one off.
Get to ****. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17295990 Your sooper dooper stars got outplayed by the better team.
Alright WC, hows it going? You still on SW? Edit: having read your comment above, I think I may have got the wrong 'World Class'...
Using a cup competition to try and devalue United's continued dominance over the PL. Yep, that sounds like a Liverpool fan. If the PL is so pathetic, how bad does that make mid table clubs like Liverpool?
You practically played your reserves against Palace, while you were full strength against Bilbao. The Lyon game was a one-off. The fact there are 3 Spanish teams in the EL semis and 2 in the CL semis suggests that, at this moment in time, their teams are far better than ours. And, in case you hadn't noticed Swarbs, the ONLY time Spanish sides can possibly meet English sides is in - you've guessed it - cup competitions. So yes, we are 'going by cup competitions.' Flawless logic to think otherwise. P.S - let me know when the top two sides in Spain exit at the group stage of the CL and only make it to the last 16 of the Europa.
