Perhaps that tough start, while we were still building things, served to galvanise us tighter together.” "More than anything though, it was a great day for our fans. I know they will have spent a lot of time and money coming to support us here, so it's great to send them home happy." • The Hornets Stephen McGinn is getting closer to a return as is Adrian Mariappa (ankle) and Ross Jenkins (groin). To get in the play-offs you're going to need a good run. To win those play-offs, like we did before, you're going to need to be the best and most consistent team doing the basics right, at the minute we're working on going right back to basics. The last time we achieved anything we did exactly that, after a horrible result against Newcastle. We bounced straight back." “We have built up, and I'm very proud to have built up, some expectation. Without expectation you're nothing. Without anticipation of a positive result you're nothing. Our lads have played so well that the fans are wanting success. We've had it before and we want it again. You can't stop that, you just have to get ready to shoulder that responsibility - and that's what we haven't done well enough.” • The Tangerines Former Watford favourite Kevin Phillips is not likely to play as he has a hip and ankle injury. Blackpool will test his fitness before the game. Also injured is Roman Bednar has a knee injury. Stephen Crainey and Barry Ferguson will be available to play. Current form For Watford to be in the position they are is a strange feeling in the last ten games only Southampton and Reading are doing better and only Southampton of the top teams have beat Watford recently. These games have produced two defeats, two draws and six victories with 15 goals scored and 14 lost, seven against Southampton and Crystal Palace. Blackpools last ten matches include a cup defeat at Everton. The other nine matches have given three wins four defeats and two draws with 17 goals marked and 18 against. Akureyri's Prediction: 0-2 Blackpool will end Watford’s run and with it any chance of the Hornets sneaking into the play-offmatches. skál/skÃ¥l/cheers/salut Don't forget Drop in to The Hornet’s Nest for some match chat. We should be thinking more like this!!!! Apart from the last part, because I think we've done very well this season (though it does remind me a lot of the past few seasons.....). I think Blackpool will be our biggest test since this run of ours began. They have goals in them, and we will need to be at our best defensively. Unfortunately for us....they will not hoofball it like Leeds...they have skilful and talented forwards and we need to keep the defence tight and not give them space. I just hope that Dickinson does ok.....against a good winger he usefully comes out 2nd best. I also think that we will be able to get at them.....the physical presence of Deeney and Iwelumo should cause them problems, and hopefully the bumps of the pitch go in our favour I think we can get a result here....but I would take a draw. I think we have a better chance of getting points in the other games, home or away, and a draw against a play off rival would be ok.
Great stuff as ever ak. I am sure that the Watford match threads are the best presented ones on the whole of the site. At the moment I have no vibes about how this one might go, but our little run does have to come to end sooner or later. I think a hard earned draw that will not help either side is likely.
great thread as ever Ak, thank you . Tricky this one, but i think we'll continue the run of unbeaten games, hopefully with a win! The result? 3-1...quite obviously
Great thread as always. Tough call this one. Blackpool are blowing hot and cold at the moment but then our results have come against pretty mediocre teams. Are they going to be another team to become unstuck trying to play football on our Sunday league pitch? Have a feeling we may get edged out 2-1. Really hope I'm wrong.
I've been looking at the betting odds on this one and the bookies aren't giving much difference between a home win, an away win or a draw. They clearly think it could go any way. One foreign site did offer odds on 8-1 on Craig Beattie scoring the first goal. I would want better odds than that.
Nice one AK, 5*'s as ever...I will miss these! Difficult game and as said above, Blackpool will be one of the better teams we play this season, so a good challenge. I will go for a 2-2 goal fest! Cheers again AK...
To have any chance of the play-off's we have to beat Blackpool. If they win, then Blackpool will be 9 points better off than us, and so it will only leave 6th place up for grabs. So it's a 3-1 win for the 'orns, and a cold pint in the new yellow and red lion! COYH.....
I agree with Oxhey. While we can realistically make the top six with something very slightly less than six wins, we absolutely must not lose to any of the teams currently on 63 points, and definitely need to beat at least two of them. With a trip to Brighton (who are brilliant at home) to come, I don't think anything but a win tomorrow will be enough for us to still be in playoff contention. I don't want to pile on too much pressure, because this has to go down as a good season regardless of what happens tomorrow. But it would be brilliant to go into the last five games knowing that we're playing four teams around us, and that each and every one of them will be looking increasingly nervously at the run that we're on.
We have only lost to Southampton and Reading at home since October...so a pretty good record! Blackpool did just beast Southampton 3-0 though
I would like anyone to "beast" Southampton (& West Ham) at the moment. Quite how you beast a team, I'm not sure but it sounds great! BTW Thanks for the coffee AK - having to put Emlea Light in at the moment though.....
surely beasting is illegal? i'm going for an edgey 2-1 to the golden boys. looking forward to this one, hope its not as cold as it is in bristol its brass monkeys down here.
