Just appeared on the OS that the academy has gone top of the academy league! How lucky we are to have a great group of enthusiastic youngsters improving so quickly. With this large investment in Staplewood and the youth setup its looking fantastic for the future both long and short term. Jake Sinclair seems to be banging goals in for fun at the moment, a great showing from our kids in the fa and league cup this year including a goal from Mr Ward-Prowse and an assist from Mr Reeves. It just got me thinking, how many Bales, Walcotts and Chamberlains could we have in that top of the league team!

Heres to the future of Southampton FC <cheers>

Saints U18 won away to Ipswich 4-1 today. Sinclair got a hat trick.

That puts them top of their academy league A.

    Team. P W D L F A Pts
    Saints 27 14 8 5 57 29 50
    Arsenal 27 15 4 8 54 37 49
    Fulham 26 16 0 10 65 45 48
    West H 27 14 4 9 53 41 46
    Charlton 26 13 5 7 51 27 44

Saints last game away v Bristol City (Pos 9 in league B)
Arsenal away v Birmingham (Pos 8 in league B)
Fulham away v Reading (Pos 1 league B) and away v Norwich (pos 8 league A)
Charlton away v Leicester (Pos 2 league B) and away v Pompey (Pos 9 league A)

So in with a chance of winning league A and getting to the play offs.

    Well done lads

Ward-Prowse & Shaw are definetly in the Bale, Walcott etc group

Chambers, Turnbull, Stephens, Sinclair, McQueen, Reed and Moore will all be good solid pro's, but not necessarily world class imo

Id personally put Sinclair up there with Prowse and Shaw, if you watch the video replays of the under 18s you can just tell hes going to be a quality player.

I think there's 4, 5 maybe 6 players in this group that could potentially be very very good pro's at this club or another. Also I think there's 1 or 2 potential world beaters in there.
Also probably about a month ago 5 U16 got 3 year scholarships. It's lookin' good!!

And Chambers was being talked about in especially good terms, only the other day.

When we win the champions league we'll buy Bale Chambo and Walcott back and have the premier league's first and only thoroughbred team

Bale would be Left midfield where he started out during his time at the Academy. Saints turned him into an LB.

Which is strange really. We did the same to Bridgey. Presumably, we wanted them to be over lapping FBs.

It appears Shaw is playing as a LB in the under 18s. Perhaps we'll convert him to a LM....

Definitely pal, the kid looks quality. I wouldn't mind having his brother either!

I'd also put my neck out and say Rowe (who hasn't had as much game time as some of the others) and Matt Targett (U16s full back but has already played for the 21s) will be up there, a long with the likes of Chambers, JWP, Shaw and possibly Reed depending on how he develops over the next year or so.

Did anyone notice that Gallagher, our new signing from Plymouth, scored a hattrick for the U16s.

Let's not get too carried away - McGoldrick once got 35 goals in a U18 season
