.... it would be a great idea for Saints fans that can afford it to buy shares in the proposed Pompey fans' club buy out. It could prove to be an interesting purchase with all sorts of opportunities for renewed friendship and good feelings between the two clubs. This might stop us all being beastly to varying degrees with each other and we might show a more positive interest in their progress.
Can't see fans coming up with the necessary £8 million - seems a non-starter as far as I am concerned.
What a nice gesture. I wouldn't expect any Southampton fans to put any money in, but the sentiment is appreciated and it would be a great opportunity to heal the animosity between the two clubs perhaps, which would be good for Hampshire as a whole.
Unfortunately even by my beddy maths I can work out that £8m divided by £100 per person is still a whole lot of people. I want them to get out of trouble as much as any Pompey fan, but supporter ownership is not going to be the way.
I see that your retirement was short lived St Godders! I have no idealistic objection to this investment opportunity, but I do like to look at the history of any company in which I tie up my money. Hmmm! No thanks!
I brought shares in Saints and lost me money so no I won't be par-taking any offered shares in Pompey. Qwerty mate..... it is eighty thousand that is easy.......
Qwerty The supporter's trust were anticipating £1000 contribution from each fan with £100 paid up-front as a registration fee. I can see the attraction but this still will require much larger input from business to supplement the money even if all of the 15,000 supporters chipped in. I believe that a similar scheme has worked very successfully in Scotland with st Mirren but surely fans owning Portsmouth would ensure that they could never compete at high level again in the long term.
That is as good a reason as any I know to encourage us to help make it a reality for them. Who do I send my cheque to?
Out of the 8 million raised, here's the new stadium sorted. http://www.diy.com/nav/garden/garde...x-Roof-Shed-Workshop-1010-10807674?icamp=recs What on earth do they need the other £7,998,600.02 for?
I wouldn't hold my breath for a cheque from St Godders. See post #3 on the thread below on April 1st http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/134308-606-in-danger!-please-help! Still awaiting the money. Cheque in the post?
That is exactly how it started but once the banter starts it is very difficult to resist. With my hand on my heart and because it is the very best thing that could happen in football I do hope that your fan buyout scheme is successful not for any silly petty reason but because football has become so corrupt that I think that the only people left in the game with any sense of decency are the fans..
Hampshire needs a "people's club", let the Pompey go to the wall and Phoenix as a real local club. They would Have to change to red and white strip before I would consider putting my pennies in though
I have to confess lads that I am very careful with my money so don't expect me to stand a round at the bar and with regards to the above slur on my character that throwaway remark was purely rhetorical although here is some truth in the suggestion that I have short arms and deep pockets. For a start I don't have a cheque book. Who does these days?
