I hate American football. It's way too stop start and why the heck is is it called football? They rarely use their foot! Also why is it called a touchdown? They don't even need to hit the ground unlike in rugby!

I also don't like the over patriotism in americans. Us British only play the national anthem at national games and finals. I remember waiting outside the baseball stadium and the national anthem was played causing the security guard to stop what he was doing, stand up straight and put his hand to heart.

The Americans also claim the Superbowl is the biggest sporting event in the world! But its only them who play it! Bit like baseballs world series

Couldn't agree more Wonky, only in America would they allow their National Anthem to be trashed by publicity seeking pop stars, Janet Jackson getting her tits out, Madge looking and sounding like a used up hooker, and who was the fat bird who had her own so called comedy show, she couldn't even sing FFS.

I like how it's called the 'world series' when only american teams are involved!

Got a feeling that this thread is going to stray off topic with an anti American theme <doh>

It's called "The World Series" because it was originally sponsored by "The World" newspaper in America! <ok>

Thanks dave! Doubt that newspaper only covered america and not the world.

The americans during the world cup were annoying with their national anthem. No doubt there are americans who stand up in the living room when it's being played. I tend to make a cup of tea or grab a beer during our national anthem anyway.

I like to watch the likes of Wayne Rooney not knowing the words!

As for the World newspaper, it covered news from across the globe, but only sponsered AMERICAN baseball teams! <ok>

    Rugby!

Rugby could be improved by making the ball rounded and kicking it around on the floor.

What does my head in is when you're on a flight with a bunch of Americans and they all clap when you land - what's that all about? I don't think anybody has ever given me a round of applause as I finish my day in the office doing what I'm paid to do.

Football: 22 overpaid pricks trying to kick a little ball into the net. Each team has a man who wears big gloves who tries to stop the ball going into the net. It's obligatory for the men to have stupid tatoos and generally be unable to form coherent sentences. They trip over when no one is near them and cry in pain. What a ridiculous game!!!

Same with the movies, they always ruin a bloody good film with a 'woop, woop' and round of applause at the end. I'm thinking Independance Day here ! <doh>

Like many on here, I used to hate American Football. However, I chose a team, began watching it, and now I am a fervent Miami Dolphins fan! I love it. I'm also looking into becoming a referee as part of BAFRA (British American Football Referees Association).

Moral of the story: don't knock it 'til you've tried it (or at least given it a fair chance)!

Also, Rugby League is infinitely better than Rugby Union.

Agreed some of these sports are great fun to compete in. I would love to drive an F1 car round all day. But many are shocking as spectator sports!

I agree RE American football. It has some really good ideas in it such as the draft system and is fun to play.
