Perhaps the reason it has resurfaced recently is because ignoring the problem has been shown not to work. It has to be faced head on and if it takes the Catholic church to do it all well and good as far as i'm concerned. I have no axe to grind with the church especially when they are a force for the good. In this case I believe they are.
