Chelsea are going to make at least the semi-finals of the CL. And yet they're ****. Go figure. If we win the league and the best anyone can come up with is that it was a **** league then it won't make the 20th any less sweet.
No doubt there's been a shift of power away from the Prem and towards other leagues, especially La Liga, over the past couple of years. I don't see anyone near Real's or Barca's level this year. But I found myself asking whether the Mancs on some level weren't giving it their best in the Champions and Europa Leagues. The idea being that since they weren't going to win the Champions League, best to lose early and concentrate on the Prem...
I never said Chelsea were **** I said they have'nt been themselves and I never said the league was **** either I asked people opinions on what they thought of the standard of the league and I suggested that maybe it was'nt as strong as it usually is and I dont see why United fans are so defensive about the subject if it was me it wouldnt bother me but obviously its upsetting you and some other United fans that anyone would dare to suggest that the league has been below it usual high standard this season.
chelsea have had an easy run in the cl.. and found a little refuge to hide in there... napoli are notorious in europe for being bad travellers. it was this thta actually put city out. the fact is that while it is a really lower standard GENERALLY, right across all clubs at least there is a competition at the top and at the bottom which gives entertainment to us all. Thats better than a one horese race or everyone who comes up going right back down.
An easy run? And yet we've put out a team that City couldn't handle and won against a team United couldn't handle.
Read the second paragraph of the post you quoted, I couldn't give a **** whether you or anyone else thinks it's a weak league or even the worst league in the history of European football IF we win the title.
Well its easy for us to say that as we've largely poor. I'd be happy if i was United though. Chelsea and Arsenal quite happy due to the Champs League and Arsenal's run of results. But I agree this year has been quite poor. Compare the teams to those from 06-09 and its quite a difference. City were set to be the one megga team. But they have gone off the boil and United are trudging past as usual.
To put things into perspective, I think that either of the Moscow teams would have walked this league.
You could have faced Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich so far, there would still be someone claiming it was 'an easy run'. We had it in 2005 despite facing Chelsea, Juventus and Milan!
The Prem is not got weaker, its teams have got better (except Liverpool) Whilst UTD seem weaker, they keep grinding out results week in week out (thats what good teams do) but had a bad time in Europe City are the new Arsenal and have bottled it at the business end. Arsenal have come good but all to late Chavs have had a mixed season Spuds have come good finally Toon doing better than expected Everton doing as expected
Individually, the teams in the league have got worse (Liverpool most notably, but Arsenal, Chelsea and I would have to say United also have done) relative to their previous sucessfull years. City, Newcastle and Spurs have improved significantly. Collectively, the league has improved because there's no 'guaranteed' results on a weekend now. City could go and romp away 5-0 against a team...or come away made up at pulling a game back to 3-3. Liverpool should be smashing QPR but end up loosing. Swansea are playing good footbal. Newcastle are still competing months after people said they'd trail away. The league is more competitive than ever this season and it makes for good viewing for neutrals. Saying that the United team, just because it's likely they'll win this season, is weaker than in previous years takes nothing away from their achievement. Their team is still strong compared to the rest of the league, but not as strong. They've had to perform week in week out instead of just beating the top 4 and then turning up to the rest - something Fergie is good getting out of his team. But, just like the other 'top 4' of recent years, their squad is worse than it has been and this is why European football results are poorer than usual. I'd like to think this is a balanced reflection of the league. Fantastic season to watch. Next season will be interesting to see which teams improve and which decline further.
Agree with this. It doesn't matter whether it's Prem or Europe, football is football wherever you play it.
The premier league is the top league in a association, not the 'Premierleague' which is a brand and a product and a name of a competition you dolt PL can apply to any top league duhhhh To say EPL is to say Englands top league Otherwise it would be EP English Premierleague which should be just premierleague. So if you're gonna shout about it get it right
