This season is your best season in 6 years as well as your worst in 58.

    Very confusing times I suspect.

How do you see the season so far? Good, bad, ugly or a mix of all 3?

I am not meaning to wum, though it may appear that way.

It really is your best season in 6 and your worst in 58. If you ever needed more evidence that footballs a funny old game then you have it here.

To be far it is ****ing weird. We are on the eve of another Wembley trip in the FA cup semi final and there should be a positive aurora the Club. But instead we find ourselves arguing amongst ourselves and questioning the players and management staff.

We could lose most of our games between now and the end of the season, it wont make much difference because we have nothing much to lose. To call for a change right now would be stupid, Kenny can win us the FA Cup and it should remain that way. If FSG decide to move him on after then I'm sure most of us can accept that. If he was to win the FA Cup then at least he may leave on a high, or may even be given the opportunity to put egg in our faces next season.

    Zingy! <laugh>

I think that the owners and Kenny will def have a talk with what the **** happened in the league? We were right there in january and then ****, 4th disappeared and we went on this slide. Cups there are no complaints but this was the season with no European distractions and the league we should have been much much much better in.

    ****ing right weird it is.

08-09 was our best season since Istanbul. 9 goals more than anybody, doubles over Utd and Chelsea, only two losses, highest points total since the rebranding of division one. Wums called us a two-man team but Gerrard and Torres were out for big chunks of that season. Notice they didn't mention Alonso as part of that two until he left, then suddenly we'd been a one man team of Alonso + 10, despite only receiving one bid of £12m for an asking price of £16m the season before he left. He was great but the raving was OTT and the £25m price tag he went for should be put into the context of Real also paying £80m for Ronaldo and £56m for Kaka.

Anyway, Utd had Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney; we had injured Torres understudied by a very young Ngog and Voronin. The squad was already being eroded but Rafa's skills got us that season despite the squad erosion, which is now visible at Utd, so no wonder we fell four points short. It all caught up with us in 2010 but we were still 2 minutes from a Eufa final.

Rafa hardly helped with the squad getting weakened annually. Selling the likes of Bellamy and buying Babel instead.

Weird - that's not even the half of it. It's not just our season that has been weird but a number of other teams as well.

For us, we began the season with great expectation. Our realistic target was 4th spot and until the last 4 games this was still achievable. A cup and the semi-final of another should have been the icing on the cake. We have played some very good football both home and away. Even now we have one of the meanest defences in the league. Nobody has created more chances per game than we have. Yet we find ourselves on the worst run for 50 years; 4th is no longer possible and the squad that was supposed to give us strength in depth now appears to be stretched very thin. Now that is very wierd!

I could fill pages as to why I think that we have ended-up in this position and what it may all really mean. Obviously, we haven't scored enough goals and therefore haven't collected the points that our play has generally deserved. The league is built on the accumulation of points and we have not done that. In the end it is that simple. However, it leaves a sour taste when you play some of the best football that the club has played for seasons and still end up with such a poor return.

The whole Suarez thing has taken its toll on the club and the squad and the player (personally I will never forgive Evra, the FA and Suarez himself for that). Gerrard has been injured/ill for the best part of the season. Talisman he may be but he has not returned as the lethal dynamic force that we all expected to see. Add to that, the dream attack of Suarez, Carroll with Gerrard in the hole has not been played fully all season (when they all have been on the pitch, Gerrard has been playing more deeply). Other significant injuries have been Agger, Johnson, Kelly, Lucas and Bellamy. Henderson has shown us signs of development but has probably been over-played and out of position and now appears to be suffering for it. Adam has had one of the worst attacks of 2nd season syndrome and has therefore done himself or us too much good. Downing may have proved what the visiting fans said - he's not good enough. Both Carra and Kuyt appear to have demonstrated that they have gone on 1 season too long. I will leave the Carroll discussion for another time. Safe to say that he has not set the league alight.

So, in spite of all of that, we may have performed far better than the points tally suggests.

Looking quickly at the other sides. NOTE these are my thoughts:

Arsenal are in a false position. Without van Persie's goals they would be in an absolute mess.

Chelsea are merely an on-going saga. The summer will see if they are finally prepared to truly address the problems of an ageing squad. Now that is going to take an awfull lot of time, effort and money.

Newcastle have over-performed all season. However, when you actually strip away the hype they have been very lucky. It will be interesting to see how they go next season.

Spurs are Spurs - chickens! They had the opportunity to really challenge Utd and City and bottled it. I don't accept this "it's the 'Arry situation upsetting the players". There is something essentially missing in the heart/make-up of the club.

    City - I just don't know.

United. I know I'm going to get attacked by their fans but this is the worst United squad for a very long time. They should now win the league but once again it is the failure of other sides that has helped them to do so rather than their own efforts.

So to answer UIR. Yes it's wierd - very!

Your last bit about the mancs. I happen to agree with you that the mancs have the worst squad of players that they have had for ages. Yet they are more than 30 points ahead of us. Yes you can put it to luck, put it to others who allow them to win. But at the end of it you have to recognise the key role of the manager. He is managing to extract the most from modest resources while our manager is doing the opposite.

Hand on heart, if the managers were reversed, does anyone in their right mind think that Kenny would have led the mancs to the top and ferguson would have led us to 8th with only a few games remaining?

If you really want to comment upon my post then address the points that were made. The managerial situation was not even mentioned!
