And risk further injury..............seems a bit daft..

LEE Cattermole is prepared to risk aggravating a knee injury in a bid to drive Sunderland on to a strong finish to the season.

The skipper has been quietly playing on through a medial ligament strain for several matches but hopes to nurse it through to the end of the campaign so he can lead Martin O’Neill’s quest for an uplifting end to the campaign.

He was brought off in the dying seconds of Sunderland’s superb display against Manchester City at the weekend after feeling the injury but has no plan to drop out of the starting line-up if he can help it.

He revealed: “I felt my medial a little in the Everton game but I was fine after that. Then I just felt it again in the closing stages at City. Just tweaked.

“It won’t be a problem though. There was just a little stretch of my ligament. I went off as a precaution.”

Cattermole wants to play every remaining match if he can, desperate to remain a part of a side which he now says has nothing to fear but itself.

“The games we have lost, we have not turned up in,” he explained. “That’s the disappointing thing. Out of the 20 games we’ve played under this gaffer we have been brilliant in 15 or 16 of them.

Not for me - He is class (and I mean exactly that) - Has been fantastic since O'Neill arrived - if he does himself further damage then he could miss a chunk of next season as well and we have cover in his position.

That said - the attitude shown in this is fantastic - he wants to play - I wonder how many players from other sides have that sort of determination!! Catts is massive for us and I think he will be for seasons to come

Yes but sparingly, this weekend for example 2 games in 3 days. He shouldn't play both games.

Cattermole doesn't need to prove his commitment to the cause of SAFC as it's plainly obvious for all to see. Not all that bad for a smoggy ;0)

I would hope that he is rested for a few or the majority of the remaining games as we need a fit Cattermole for the start of the new campaign. We have a real opportunity of pushing on next season so I would hope that the preperation for next season is already being considered as we stand today.

Knees need looking after. Defo "no" from me, unless it's not as bad as it sounds. Why risk it when we're basically playing for pride now?

Why risk a ligiment injury when we have other CM's capable of stepping in, don't see any point in risking him....He needs a rest before the Euro's :)

If he damages his medial ligament in a big way, he could be out for up to 12 months....so, no brainer for me. Don't play him

Why risk an injury, it may be this is a lead in to him missing the game? Besides which I wonder, as with Arsenal and Oxo, we will play Campbell at RW to help Bardsley deal with Bale and co, Catts is slow and so is Larsson, but Seb might score so he may play CM with Meyler who is quicker? Although of course where does Colback/Rico/Bridge then play?

Yeah play him, he has enough bottle to go for it, could make all the difference, by the way COMM, I like him playing. As I did Bally and Charley H, and all iron men inbetween.

I'm aggrieved to say this, but Cattermole has been quite influential for you since Christmas. One thing puzzles me though. What size chest are his shorts?

Would rest him and give Colback more experience rather than risk an injury. What about Meyler as well, is he fit at the minute?
