I know its something we discuss regularly, but thought i'd throw a few characters into the argument.. Jason Roberts (assuming Reading didnt want him in prem) i get the feeling he's a mate of CP?? Evans or Madine or Rhodes (whichever one doesnt go up this season) Bostwick Quinn Lappin Frimpong on loan Diacoraga
I'd like to see Danny Guthrie is possible I know its a longshot, but when Newcastle have a fully fit squad he doesn't feature, and I think he will be good for our midfield
Both Guthrie and frimpong were linked with prem clubs in jan (the latter actually joining wolves on loan). Roberts would be a good shout. It's an obvious shout, but shelvey would be good on loan. Gleeson from MK to compete with Stephens.
Diagouraga, certainly. The most decisive midfielder I've seen this season. But if we really want to announce our presence in The Championship, let's try and steal a march on the queue of Prem clubs waiting to sign Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra with an early and bold bid. From what the club have said though, there's going to be no dramatic moves in the close season but if the current run of indifferent form continues, commonsense may force their hand. And to look at the flipside of your question Stu - who's going out?
I think its the obvious names for me... Doc Hayes Green Waggy Clarke (it he hasnt already) Alonso Hughes Euell Pritchard (sorry Tewkes, i know you like him) Stephens possibly Jacko (dare i say it ) Hollands hasnt impressed me either TBH Think we really need to look at the creativity levels in midfield, Gleeson sounds a good shout, as does Bostwick. Another name would be possibly Vardy as a gamble - scores at all levels he's played.
I'd agree with the first six Stu - not that I want Hayes to go but unless this underlying ruck between him and CP is resolved, I can't see any other alternative. I'd expect to see a bid coming in for Green from Swindon, amongst others. I think the last three will at least start next season, but their shortcomings may be exposed quite soon - in the case of Jacko, more physical than technique-wise. Pritchard also I'd like to see start next season, but you're right Stu, that'd be more for sentimental reasons than anything - he's such a tryer, obviously loves playing and has taken the most of the chance that's been presented to him relatively late in his career. Vardy might be worth a punt, but I think he's going to go for an awful lot more money than we'll be willing to pay out. As I've mentioned before, the player in that side I'd go for is Andy Mangan, although he did turn down a move back into the league earlier on this year.
Hamer Solly Morrison Ramage? Wiggins Pugh Diagouraga Frimpong or Guthrie Mechekeran Evans Bwp I doubt we will be able to get frimpong or Guthrie but think we will need a CDM to partner diagorauga. Mchekeran would be a good signing on loan from chealsea because he is a very creative player and a good passer. I think pugh is great so I think he could replace Danny green. Im struggling to thnk of a cb but Ramage was the first name that came in to my mind. The defence does not need much change as it has let in hardly any goals. But if we want to mount a serious promotion push I think these are the calibre of players we need to get.
We wont stand a chance signing the likes of McEachran, not whilst you've the likes of Bolton or Swansea sniffing round him - And am sure plenty of other sides in the Premiership will take him. Evans, Madine or Rhodes - Any one of them and alongside Kermit or BWP I reckon we could have a strong case for back to back promotions (Have to admit I wouldnt mind Madine on his current form) Marc Pugh could be a possibility from Bournemouth (hasnt he turned down a couple of Contract offers?), Osborne from Brentford or Magnus Okuonghae from Colchester perhaps as Defensive options? Or as SuperChrissy says maybe we'll see Shelvey back but next year I could see him having a year long loan in the Premiership. Dont forget we still need to sign a backup Right Back, I'm Solly's biggest fan but RB is our weakest position seeing I dont think we've any decent cover for him. N'Guessan I think will become permanent especially if he continues his scoring Going out: Doherty / Mambo / Clarke / Popo / Alonso / Euell / Warren / Goldberg to all leave the club in the summer
Danny Hollands is a top player and CP values him highly. No chance of him leaving. He is just tired at present plus has lacked a regular CM partner (Stephens, Russell, Pritchard, Hughes have all had a go). Once his triplets grow up and go off to university he can get a decent night's sleep and resume his start-of-the-season form with a quality player alongside him. Diagouraga looks a good shout and should be affordable. Seriously, there is nil chance of Hughes leaving. Odd that Stu thinks he is an "obvious name" to depart when he has started 40 league games, but not Hughes who will be approaching 35 and has started only 5. Get a grip, Stu! Green, Wagstaff, Pritchard and Stephens are CP signings and he won't rush to admit he was wrong about them. They will be given a chance in the Championship and if they don't take it they will go out on loan (Though Green to Swindon looks possible if the price is right). Stephens could leave if we get a big offer from a northern club, but with his patchy appearance record this season how likely is that to happen? CP might have to let Evina go if the player agitates for a move as he hasn't has a fair chance at Charlton, but even there he would prefer to hold on to him given he is still only 20.
Only Hollands, Morrison and Wiggins have featured in every league game for us this season, so I doubt any of them will be seen as expendable
P;ayers to go Mambo,Warren,Popo,Bover,Alonso,Russell,Euell,Clarke,Doc and maybe Hayes.Players to come in Lee Barnard,Coutts,Bostwick,Osbourne,Gleeson,Nguessan. These are some of the names that we are interested in.
Antonio is a great shout - had productive loan spells at Soton, Colu and now Sheff Weds. Plumb - Osbourne would be on a free, right? Not sure I would want to pay £500k upwards for him in the Championship. Excited about potentially signing Gleeson, and me and Tewkes have always raved about Diagouroa (so much so, I can't spell his name .
SuperChrissy Do you know where Antonio plays exactly obviously a winger but which side Got a good throw aswell
If I remember rightly, when we lost to them at St Marys when Antonio scored, he was on the right. Could be very good competition to Waggy/Green. He kind of reminded me of a lower league Antonio Valencia.
