Hello and welcome to the sixth edition of Loan Watch. Loan Watch is a feature in which I will be keeping you updated with how the players Kenny Dalglish sent out on loan are getting on. Liverpool currently has eight players out on loan at various clubs in England and across Europe. They are:

    • Danny Wilson.
    • David Amoo.
    • Stephen Darby.
    • Peter Gulacsi.
    • Toni Silva.
    • Alberto Aquilani.
    • Joe Cole.
    • Dani Pacheco.

    Danny Wilson: Blackpool.

please log in to view this image

Danny Wilson was sent out to Blackpool on the 31st of December 2012.

He didn’t play at the weekend as Blackpool produced an excellent display to beat league leaders Southampton 3-0. He has played 10 times for Ian Holloway’s side (6 in the league and 4 in the F.A Cup) and had been a regular before Holloway decided to make some changes after a drop in form.

Danny has looked composed in defence and has helped Blackpool move into the play-off places in the Championship. Because Holloway plays such an expansive and attacking team and formations, there will be gaps between the defence and midfield which sides will exploit. However, after reading some thoughts from Blackpool fans, they seem pretty happy with him.

    My Thoughts.

Should be a good experience for Danny and playing week in week out will massively help him! I rate the lad but with stiff competition at centre-back, he'll need to impress! Doing well so far and hopefully he'll come back in the summer a better player.

    David Amoo: Bury.

please log in to view this image

David Amoo joined Bury on the 23rd of September 2011 and extended his stay with the League 1 side until the end of the season on the 2nd of January 2012.

He started Bury’s game with Tranmere on Saturday and completed the full 90 minutes as Bury won 2-0 and picked up their first win in 13 league games. He has played 28 times for Bury this season (27 in the league and 1 in the F.A Cup) and has scored 4 times. This isn’t the best rate for a striker and considering he has started 19 of these games, he hasn’t done too well. The highlight of this loan spell would have been David getting the winning goal over Preston North End.

    My Thoughts.

It’s been a good experience for David playing first-team football but I can’t see him making an impact at Liverpool. He probably needed to get some more goals to stand a chance of making an impact when he comes back to Liverpool but he hasn’t been able to do that.

    Stephen Darby: Rochdale.

please log in to view this image

Stephen Darby joined League One Rochdale on the 7th of July 2011 for a season.

He didn’t play on Saturday as Rochdale drew 3-3 with relegation rivals Walsall at Spotland. He has played 37 times for Rochdale this season (32 in the league, 3 in the League Cup & twice in the Johnson’s Paint Trophy) and had made the right-back spot his own. However, he hasn’t played in Rochdale’s last 3 games as various players have filled in at right-back.

    My Thoughts.

I would expect Stephen to get moved on in the summer. With Johnson, Kelly & Flanagan already having first-team games at right-back, it doesn’t look like he’ll be able to force his way into the right-back slot at Liverpool. He seems to be playing regularly at Rochdale so he could end up at Spotland on a permanent deal next season.

    Peter Gulacsi: Hull City.

please log in to view this image

Peter joined Hull City on the 19th of July 2011 for a season long loan.

He was on the bench on Saturday as Hull lost 2-0 at home to Coventry City and gave Coventry their first away win of the season. Peter started the season as Hull’s number one and has played 15 games so far for the Championship side. Peter picked up a knee injury against Burnley on the 31st of December 2011 and hasn’t played since. Because Peter was injured, Hull brought in cover in the form of Arsenal reserve goalkeeper Vito Mannone. Because Vito has been in good form for Hull, Peter has had to settle for a place on the bench.

    My Thoughts.

When he moved, I think we all thought it was a good move. He signed a contract extension before he left and that shows he’s highly rated at Liverpool. We wanted him to get games at Hull and now he isn’t. It seems a bit pointless to see him sitting on the bench at Hull. It would have been better for us to recall him and send him to a club where he would play but there isn’t a recall clause in the loan agreement. Needs to be playing games next season.

    Toni Silva: Northampton Town.

please log in to view this image

Toni joined Northampton Town on the 14th of February 2012 for the rest of the season.

Toni started Northampton’s game with Crewe on Saturday but was taken off on 62 minutes. Despite not completing the full 90 minutes, he made a valuable contribution as set up Adebayo Akinfenwa who opened the scoring. Toni has played 10 times for Northampton and has scored once (Against relegation rivals Dagenham & Redbridge) He also has two assists so far for Aidy Boothroyd’s side.

    My Thoughts.

It’s been a good loan for Toni. He did well in the NextGen Series and getting first-team football at a competitive level will do the lad the world of good. He has slotted in nicely into the Northampton midfield and has helped Northampton push away from the relegation zone. He been in and out of team but has made an impact when he’s started or when he’s come off the bench.

    Alberto Aquilani: AC Milan.

please log in to view this image

Alberto joined AC Milan on the 25th of August 2011 on a season-long loan.

Alberto started AC Milan’s last game against Catania and was taken off in the 85th minute. He has played 26 times for the Italian side this season. In the league, he has played 19 times and has 1 goal and 6 assists to this name. He has performed well this season and before his injury, he has been a regular in the Milan midfield.

    My Thoughts.

If reports are to be believed, 25 games activates a clause which completes a permanent move to Milan for a fee of around £6M. He has played 26 times which means he probably will move on in the summer. We never really saw what he could do and will probably never will. He seems happy in Italy and, in my opinion, will be there next season.

    Joe Cole: Lille.

please log in to view this image

Joe joined OSC Lille on the 31st of August 2011 for a season.

Joe was on the bench on Sunday but didn’t get on the pitch as Lille beat Toulouse 2-1. Joe Cole has played 36 times for Lille this season (25 in Ligue 1, 6 in the Champions League, 3 in the Coupe De France & twice in the Coupe de le Ligue) In those games, he has scored 8 times and has 4 assists. Joe is doing well in France and has been playing most of Lille’s games.

    My Thoughts.

Joe seems to be enjoying his time in Lille and has spoken about staying there long-term. His wages are a big issue for us to sort out in the summer as I would expect Joe to move on. If he can sort out the wage issue, I expect him to be moved on.

    Dani Pacheco: Rayo Vallecano.

please log in to view this image

Dani joined Rayo Vallecano on the 25th of August 2011.

He last played for Rayo on Sunday as they lost 4-0 to Real Sociedad. Dani has played 8 times for Rayo but hasn’t been able to get on the scoresheet. It hasn’t been the best loan and he is struggling to get in Rayo’s team.

    My Thoughts.

A lot of us fans thought Dani was going to be a great player. It doesn’t look like he will. He did well for Norwich last season but is struggling over in Spain. Can’t get a game and can’t get a goal. I can see him being moved on in the summer permanently.

    Nice 1 Chris
The 1 i'm most gutted about is Aqualani IMO never got the chance and now we are going to lose a lot of money on him<grr>
Also i hope Cole signs a permanent deal with Lille so we can right his high wages of our books should be sold in the summer

    Cheers Chris. Good round up....

Dani was a regular from the bench in the first part of the season, but then got injured. Since returning he has been on the bench, but hasnt yet goton the pitch.....We would have been much better off sending him to a championship side where he could get game time.

    Good thread!

Shame about Pacheco - we all had high hopes for him and we thought he was starting to show that potential at Norwich.

well.... I think anyone watching darby will see an absolute bargain there. any championship side ought to be sanppnig him up for half nothing or on a free and playing him cos he's got a great attitude.

Amoo never could get his head up but he has got a lot of games there so i expect he'll head for a championship side as well.

Silva is doing well and i'm glad about that as he is a worker and does have some vision.

Aquilani and cole are just millstones to be shed as far as i am concerned. their attitude stunk TBH cos if they'd fought for a place they'd be playing and dare i say it improveing us a lot. They don't want to be here therefore i wish them a quick transfer and nothing more.

As for pacheco... no work ethic, we filled him full of himself and this should be a lesson for the coaching staff. The website should not be allowed to advertise reserve games using players any more (which since pacheco left we are not goind and doing) we need to instill work ethic not make prima donnas. We made a young guy lose his head i think.

finally gulasci. he needs to learn the harsh realities, consistency and beating the guy in possession of the one shirt is vital for him and TBH this will stand him in good stead.

Fantastic thread, Chris, even if it does make for a depressing read. Most disappointed that gulacsi isn't getting game time as I always though he had raw talent. Aquilani situation leaves me baffled and annoyed, no need for an explanation there as to why

In Dani's defence. He comments on twitter regularly to give credit to his friends at LFC and to support the team. I would like to see him back at the end of the season and go on a season loan to somewhere he will get to play every week......
    Bristol City for instance??
At least then, if we do move him on we wil lget some money for a tasty player, rather than the nothing we would get now.

he may tweet but i'd rather he come to the realisation that each and every chance he got he strolled about the pitch. i'd rather him fail by running about kicking lads in over eagerness than do what he did this preseason. It'd be nice to think he'd do a san jose here and play for a good side in spain. I just think we gave him the impression he was that good and it was goingt o fall in his lap.

    Thanks for the comments.

I think we are all pretty annoyed at the Aquilani situation and the sonner a deal with any club is completed, the better. If we can move on both Aquilani & Cole permanently in the summer, we'll have a significant saving on the wage bill.

Just to pick up on Red's point on Gulacsi, I asked the Hull fans on here what they thought on Gulacsi and they weren't too impressed. Talked about not commanding his area enough and they all preferred the keeper that replaced Gulacsi. That can be worked on in the summer though.

Pacheco will be gone in the summer in my opinion. Hasn't really performed this season for Rayo (Hasn't had enough game time) but I can see him leaving for Spain permanently in the summer.

    <ok>

  10. Cheers Chris, great thread, keep them coming <ok>

Not bothered about Aquilani and Cole leaving, the former does not want to be here and the latter is passed his best and wasn't able to settle/perform.

The one player (that probably won't be at Liverpool next season) I am truly gutted for is Dani Pacheco. As people are probably aware by now, I don't watch much (if any) of the reserves. However, from what I saw of him in the first team (and a bit of the youth world cup tournament), I don't agree with him not tracking. In the games i saw him he worked hard and tracked is man, the main thing I remember him doing was a superb sliding tackle in the left back position!

It is worth noting that Kenny worked with the youth players before returning as manager so saw Pacheco at first hand. He clearly didn't think he was good enough for the first teama nd probably sent him out on loan to gain valuable experience which, unfortunately, he has not received.

Darby is a shame but, as Chris said, we have plenty of options at right back and it would be unfair to hold him back.

interesting chris... my impression of gulasci is he needs to be toughened up with body work and expericne. its rare for a keeper to be that good at his age so i think i'd be happy enough if he's learend the ropes a bit and has stuff to work on.

I watched spain u19 and spain u20 campaigns and pacheco wnet backwards badly in the second one. The reserves, ok the level is not so hot but he wasn't learning anything there. when he got to preseason games the last two years he hardly made any impact and really never put himself about.

good point he seemed to enjoy it there. maybe, just maybe a loan to a prem club like noriwch would have gone and done him the world of good. As it stadns i feel all our loans end up not really telling anyone anything cos league one = reserves + stamina and pace. Championship and prem loans like the ones sturridge, welbeck and a few others got do seem to stand to them.... are any good enough i wonder.

Just maybe pacheco might be a hot property had he gone to norwich.
