He's publicly expressed an interest in playing at Arsenal today - but who thinks he is an improvement on Arteta or Song? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11811/7646051/M-Vila-drops-Arsenal-hint Here's an interesting article on some alternatives to M'Vila http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1128246-arsenal-transfer-top-6-alternatives-to-yann-mvila Notice the number 1 alternative....
Interesting one. I think we'd benefit from a proper DM, Song isn't really one, he's a CM and I think he offers a lot going forward, which we'd lose if we insisted that he played as a screen for the back four. The fact that he can defend too, is an asset for a CM. So for me Song gets a place in the starting line up. Arteta has been an inspired buy. He is a top quality player and every bit suits Arsenal. He has done a really effective job this season both attacking and defending himself and linking up play out of defence in moving the ball forward. There's no way I'd leave him out of our team. So is M'Vila needed? We've conceded far too many goals (away from home particularly, our home record is 2nd only to City, even Utd have conceded more than us) and I think it's playing away, especially against teams who want to bully and harass us out of our rythmn is where we have made mistakes and come unstuck. It's in these games that we need a shield for the back four. Our system can be set up for it anyway, we played Frimpong there until he went on loan and unfortunately got injured. I think Frimpong has got a big Arsenal career ahead of him if he gets past his injuries and could be the DM we've lacked for a while. But it's certainly an area that needs attention.
Yes. He showed his quality when England played France. The guy is a natural in the role, knows where to be and when to play it simple. And he is only 21. Arteta is good, but I do not think he is 'top tier' good. Wilshere and M'Villa and in the same midfield, is what you call control.
I think Coquelin can be more then just a DM. He has the energy and skills to play as a CM. He was outstanding against Manchester City in the CC despite only playing in a two man midfield.
He is a very mobile and skillful player. He is also a really good passer, both short and long and he manages to switch the direction of play really well. I think he's a big prospect. Wenger thought he would be a full back, but he is more effective in midfield. Both he and Song offer a lot going forward as well as defensively, but neither are natural DMs. Frimpong is, but he may not be enough for us.
I also think that Song has turned into a CM and more of a box-to-box player than someone who holds his position. For this role, M'Vila would be an ideal choice but the price tag of £20m is quite hefty. But he has the potential to turn into a top class player.
Forgot about Frimpong. Poor bastard. I mean seriously, only 20 and he suffered two ACL injuries. I hate to say it, but you got to worry about his long term future. He has age on his side, at least.
ACL is a serious injury, but ligament reconstruction is quite successful. I think he can recover, but he will need a while to establish himself again and get his development back on track. I'd have to say that at 20, he's got it all ahead of him, which is good for him and us, but we could do with a dedicated DM, it's an area that we are currently lacking.
Song has to leave for Africa most years, and he can get injured or suspended, so we need top class alternatives like M'Vila. Furthermore, against some teams it might be better to play M'Vila in the same team as Song. Wenger at least needs the option to play two ball-winners. Song has had one of his best seasons (13 assists?), his consistency, vision, judgment and positional play have all improved showing greater maturity. All round he is better, and who's to say he won't improve even more? He's 24. I would like to see M'Vila arrive for the right price (<15 million), and both him and Song should get plenty of games.
M'vila will cost quite a bit and do you guys really think dm is priority when it will in all likelihood take up most of our budget? Coquelin IMO has more potential and though he's not natural dm he is in the system we play. I would much rather see the money spent else where.
I watched a video of him and he looked like he might attract the "sideways passer" criticism. He looked a tidy player though. He looked a lot like Ramsey to me on the ball. A few too many touches. These days tackling is not a skill that is really required in a DM.
the only reason we would him is if we were going to sell one of song, coquelin and frimpong. so i doubt we'll get him.
I would definately go in for him as we need a dedicated DM in our team, this will allow Song to move forward more freely. Add to the fact that Frimpong is off with a serious injury, we need reinforcing in that area. Im not sure about Coqs but he seems like an all round player, but i'd rather get a classy DM for that position and M'Villa fits the bill. I think we have good attacking players, we just need a bit more steel protecting our back four.
Why do we need to sell them? Remember it's a squad game and we need a quality squad if we want to challenge for the premiership. Also, we are going to sell the likes of Denilson, Bendy, Vela, Chamakh, Squishy etc so that should be enough players off-loaded.
He's not 'tough in the tackle' Piskie he is lightweight and looks best when going forward. In fact he reminds me of Denilson, good technically but not very combatative. It does worry me that wenger often likes these 'defensive' players that cant tackle and lack upper body stregth..(good technical players though) Also Craig Eastmond is the same.. Frimpong has alot of potential though. Still Mvilla is already France's no. 1 pick in DM ahead of Diarra & Toulalan. He's a great talent and perhaps we would benefit from a more traditional holding player in our team. He would add some quality and a physical edge.
