The thing is though the distraction was only temporary. The petrol thing has calmed down now but the cash for access scandal is still there and will be for a very long time, much like MP expenses.

I agree it hasnt gone away. But these things arent done to make it 'go away'

Its to create a temporary distraction, to stop the snowball effect if you will. It offers a bit of thinking time and time to sort out a formal statement

It assumes that the entire public are idiots and will forget about the more serious issue but that is not the case. In the long run, the Tories will find that their distraction tactics has just made things worse.

Sam hate to say it but the public, in large parts, are idiots

This sort of thing has been going on since politics began. Look at the expenses thing. Most people have got over that. some of the thieving ****s are back in positions via the back door.

The distraction worked as it served its purpose. Tories have managed to regroup

The same expense hogs have got back into positions of power because there are no good alternatives to vote for. People vote for the lesser evil but the trust between politicians and public is gone, possibly forever.

5 pages of interesting points I'm sure but can't be bothered reading, so I'm just going to add my bit, it might have been said already...

This law is being used to intercept messages sent over the net so GCHQ can spot terror or criminal messages

    NEWSFLASH

For over ten years criminals and terrorists have been sharing email addresses and passwords, s aving messages in draft folders and not sending them on...both holders of the password can place, read and delete messages without the worry of cyberspace sniffer dogs

    This new law is pointless

That sounds reasonable enough and i've no reason to disbelieve it but if the e-mail addresses are active and they are storing messages in draft folders and the like, surely then these messages are held on a server somewhere anyway and can still be read by someone who knows what he's looking for. ie Spies.

now your living as a slave high tech police state
    warrentless searches and waterboarding awaits
manditory vaccines to keep you sedated
big brother on the screen to keep the public isolated

    conspiracy theories now conspiracy facts
thought crimes condemned like terroristic attacks
everytime you take a breathe, you pay another tax
everytime you take a step it's documented and tracked

it's wack how we're living the planets a prison
you should have listened up and questioned 9/11
declared a revolution, defend our constitution
a public execution of corrupted institutions

    ****e.

    http://www.rnw.nl/english/article/terrorist-attacks-europe-countering-fear

In 2010, there were 249 incidents, according to a Europol report – of which three were Islamic attacks – compared to 498 in 2006. Since 2001, 350 people have died at the hands of terrorists. “That's fewer than the number of victims of road accidents or domestic violence” says Edwin Bakker, professor of counter-terrorism studies at Leiden University.
