    What is every ones?

    4231

    442

    4141

    4411

    433

    343

    Another?

I personally like a good, spread out midfield.

I dont like flat rows of 4 at all.

    A 4231 or 4 4321 will do me fine.

41212. Not much width but dominant midfield and strong attack. Works well for Spain in FIFA too lol

What they call the video game formation. But it could work for us tbh.

    Personally I like a good 4-3-3.

When used well it's the perfect system.

In Bobby Robson's autobiography he says that when he played every one played 424 in this country.

4 defence and 4 forwards. The 2 in midfield were just used to transition between the 2.

I don't really care about formations. Its more about fluidity and intelligence in attack for me, formations go out of the window when you're attacking.

I always like to see a team have a defensive midfielder in midfield though, that's about it.

  9. 4231:

    GK
    RB - RCB - LCB - LB
    RDM - LDM
    RAM - CAM - LAM
    CF

I like 433 and 451 too but all three are effectively the same systems with slight tweaks.

However, IMO a formation is structured more for defensive play. No matter what the system, there should be some flexibility and fluidness to the play when attacking. I want to see players interchanging in free-flowing attacks.

Apart from the two centre backs and at least one central midfielder, the team should remain solid and unchanged whenever possible, players should be able to fill in wherever they are when possession is lost.

Don't know why but have always been partial to a 3-5-2 but like this...
    --------SWP------
    ---RCB------LCB----
    RW-----DM------LW
    ----RAM---LAM----
    -------SS---------
    ---------CF-------

so many goals to be had and link up play, but you have to have the outside mids that can work like engines to get up and back or understand that it can shift to 4 in the back when the ball is on the opposite side ( tuck).

The AM and SS all interchange only the CF stays high enough up to provide the point and the others to maneuver off.

That and 4-4-2 ( diamond middle) is also really good if you have the players and understanding.

  11. Would that come from the Liverpool team of the 90's under Roy Evans...? Aka Fowler, McManaman, Barnes, Rush, Redknapp, Wright, Jones, Thomas, Collymore (this fooker has blocked me on twitter for some reason?), James, Harkness, etc, etc

Maybe, that was the team that I grew up watching, but we played this in college and it was my favorite formation. Team packed with brazilians and we passed teams ragged. I was either RW,LW or DM, in the 4-4-2 diamond I was RCM or LCM.

I think if you have the personnel this is ( 3-5-2) such an effective system and if you can't get bodies in the box with this, I am not sure what you would need!!!!

  13. I grew up whilst Kenny was in charge first time around but didn't really take proper notice until the Roy Evans era so that is really the first football I remember us playing. It was fantastic to watch, we had a great team.

I do like 352 at times but, every system has its disadvantages too. If someone plays with one upfront then 352 sees three centre backs marking one man. If a team plays with wingers (especially if they pack the middle too) then the two wide players are pushed back making it more of a 532 which is then a negative system. I know you will say the wide players should push their wingers back but if they have four at the back their wingers won't track back.

Strength in the middle baby! **** the wingers, murk them in the middle, use the extra defenders ( very helpful if they are agger-like and ball players) to slice them through the middle. Even at 5-3-2 you still have options for quick counter attacks. use the extra man in the middle to pinch them to a side and not let them switch the point of attack and effectively cut out the wingers.

Liek you say always a + - to everything. Also if you look again it was the formation we played when Kenny had us rolling last year <whistle> ( to a point)

  15. I just think someone playing a 433/451/4321/4231 (all essentially the same) system would not only push the wide players back and leave our three CBs marking their one forward, but also match up man for man in the middle too. That leaves our two front players against their back four and them with two full backs free to bomb on.

Note: it was also the system we used when stoke turned us over <whistle>

Edit: a 4231 can allow for a slight alteration during in play to provide the benefits of a 352 too. One of the two DM sits in front of the two CBs allowing the fullbacks to push on like wing-backs <ok>
