Morning All, I have walked into work this morning and the football banter has begun now I don't mind people taking the piss out of me when we lose I give as good as I get. However its back to the old "One Man Team" and "If you didn't have Lambert you would be no higher than 14th". This really gets on my nerves and makes me snappy and I always point out that when Rickie was suspended for 3 games after the Brighton match we won 2 of them which is met by "you got lucky". So is there any saints out there who believe any of this? And my big question of the day...... if Lambert was out until the end of the season where honestly do you think we would finish? Have a good day fellow saints.
I believe that the loss of Lambert could cost us 2 games. As they said on TV, what team wouldn't miss Lambert? Most teams have crucial players...sometimes the goalie. Lambert is a game changer and a talisman for the whole team...last year Connolly and Barney could step in if needed, but this year (at least latterly) there appears to be no one. Sharp will score again before end of season but is not prolific enough. I'm sure he will be better next year. Lee could be out. Lallana not scoring many at the moment. Guly can score at his best, but is he a true front man. Jos is our best hope
With out your prolific striker in a team,it will suffer.I don't understand all this one 'man team' nonsense,we've got a great striker who is our talisman and, like many other teams, the main strikers are very important for their respective teams. Where would Arsenal be without RVP?Where would Man Utd be with out Rooney?Where would Barça be without Messi? The thing is,strikers main role is to score goals...people forget that sometimes.
Its like Arsenal without van Persie. Newcastle without Ba. Liverpool without Sua... Oh wait. It's jealousy, let them have their little moment.
Morning Fran and Adam! I like your post Adam I am the same as you when it comes to being labelled as that. I think he is without doubt our most important player but one man does not make a TEAM. Having said that if we didn't have Rickie for the rest of the season I could easily see us finishing 3rd.
Quick question for you buddy and although I am in agreement with your post, What about say Swansea and Reading with no real stand out talisman are they better equipped because they don't rely to heavily on one player?
Reading have a fantastic team ethic, a strong cohesive unit and they score goals from all over the park with people like Harte, Karacan, Hunt, Leigertwood, etc With players like Kebe and McAnuff they have the potential to rip us one at SMS to be honest despite my trying to be positive. Will be our hardest game of the season without doubt.
If we didn't have him, we'd employ a very different style of play, which we would have come up from L1 with.
I think Reading might be a bit complacent after such a morale boosting victory I can see them drawing with Leeds and Brighton in their next two games though Rich.
Love your positivity, but I do agree that Reading could drop points against at least one of these teams. The important thing is us winning, but sometimes nice if an uncontrollable goes in your favour.
I will be watching on good Friday and hoping for Leeds to snatch a draw at the least I wouldn't like us to lose top spot with so few games remaining.
Guly - 10 goals, 7 assists Lallana - 10 goals, 8 assists Hooiveld - 5 goals, great defensive performances Richardson - 10 assists Fox - 9 assists And these are purely reliant on stats - Morgan and Cork are brilliant players who don't get stacks of assists and goals but these are numbers you can use as evidence we're more than a one man team. Lambert is an incredible player and losing him would be a detriment to every single team in the league, but it doesn't mean we've got nobody else.
Hi Alex. I nearly did a thread by the same title after the Blackpool game. It was going to go along the lines of... It's true, we are a one man team. Without this guy we would be in mid-table League One and doomed to eternal mediocrity. He has pulled a squad of players who have no right to be at the top of the Championship to the brink of the big time. please log in to view this image
Well put Qwerty...the most important man in our team. He gets the best out of players and our strength is as a team rather than individually.
That being said then we do actually have some of our own fans who also believe this. I always strongly deny this is the case but does have me wondering now. Question to you Qwerty don't you think we have anybody else except Lambert that could be Premier League worthy?.
Well, I'm sure the same questions were asked on the Norwich, Swansea and QPR boards last season. Personally I think that most of our current squad will play a part if we are promoted. There would be few complaints if Cork and Schneiderlin were part of our midfield, Lallana, Guly and Sharp are other obvious candidates for major involvement, and I imagine most of our current defenders will remain in the squad as well. The key is not replacing what we have but adding to them, and I'm certain that Nigel would not have tied most of the current squad down to long contracts if he didn't think they would be able to play in the Premiership.
This is so true! Sure didn't it take lambert half a dozen matches before he scored his first championship goal? The same number of matches he didn't score in I believe were all wins too.
