The board, Chairman and owner are all coming in for a fair amount of stick regarding past "failures" - such is the joy of the current state of our social media. 10 years ago, the only option we would have had would have been to stage a protest at the ground but nowadays, opinions are easily bandied about on a million different sites and I for one do not envy the jobs of any one in charge of a football club becuase unless you are Man U, you will never get it right (and even they aren't happy about the Glaziers)...

To this end, I am extremely reluctant to critise the man who single-handedly keeps us afloat but the one thing that I do wish is that he would return to the club now and manage the business hands on - why...?

Reason being that the large number of players out of contract in the summer and consequent freeing up of the wagebill presents a unique opportunity to rebuild the club from the ground up so our owner needs to talk to DM, a man with a wealth of football knowledge, including at the top level, and plan with him how we start again from scratch and mostly importantly, LISTEN TO HIM..!! DM to identify the players, SL to do the money, I don't care if it's over the web or whatever but these 2 need to personally sort it between them.

We don't need to spend a fortune - what we need, in order of importance is:-

a). players with a football brain
b). players who are comfortable on the ball
c). players with heart and hunger who will run through a brick wall for the club

We have few of these at the moment, but with the squeeze on many clubs out there, we could pick some up reasonably. I would keep Stead, Cisse plus the new arrivals, try and sign McManus and start again...

As for next year, if the worse was to happen, I would have no worries about the attendances IF we got a new and attractive squad, playing good football and scoring lots of goals like we haven't had for 3+ seasons, the crowds will come back...

"our owner needs to talk to DM, a man with a wealth of football knowledge"

I nearly fell off my chair reading that!! You're not serious are you??

Apart from that, I do agree with your thread although getting those type of players will cost money and IMO that's what most clubs try to do isn't it?

I have not seen, or am I convinced that the type of football you and I want, meets with DM's criteria.

Prem in the red corner and redrobin in the off red corner makes an interesting match up.

My problem is that I agree with some of what both of you say although I think prem took the bout on points (something I wish City had more of right now).

However I just can't see many players worth their wages lining up to join City based on this season and as for DM I think he will leave at the end of season because his dreams, whatever they were, must have been shattered by this experience. It sounds so much like the management is full of promises but no real promise - if that makes sense.

I now truly believe, despite my anger at the time, that Coppell saw the situation and bolted. Right move Steve!

We made our decision on our management team last October and we should build on that for the future,we still have a very good chance of survival,we should be getting behind the manager and club and banging the drum on their behalf for the remaining games.

All I'm hearing about is players leaving (rightly or wrongly) manager leaving, coaching staff are rubbish and should go,board are rubbish and now the man who has underwritten us for years and invested a fortune in us is rubbish, what sort of fans are we becoming, let us get behind what we have got and behave like supporters of Bristol City Football Club.

Look at the club up the road and how low they have sunk,do we really want to act and behave like them,we are heading in that direction,we are all entitled to an opinion but lets not kick our own when we are not yet down.

I've got serious concerns and am bloody worrried about what's happening but I am not going to heave a verbal boot into Steve Lansdown or DereK Mcinnes,I will be down the Gate for the next home match regardless, shouting my support for them and everybody in a City Shirt.

It's funny reading Red Robins and Onefor's response it is always never thought he was good enough, and should of had Jones, I never sat in the interviews neither did anyone else on here so we don't know what happened. Now I have admitted if I'm wrong on DM I will appoligize to these two, but I have spoken to a few Scots mainly Celtic and Rangers fans who have all said that DM has a good footballing brain and gets his teams playing attractive football.

At the moment he can only deal the hands that he has been dealt with, and for the past few years the players have not been performing, perhaps that is down to man management but it only takes one rotten apple to ruin the cart.

I don't think we have seen what DM is capable off, but let's not forget and I'm no way comparing him with Alex Ferguson he took a while to turn things around, he signed Ralf Milne we all laughed about that. He was saved by one game as he was about to be sacked. The rest is history but I guarantee you if forums were about then he would of had the same amount of stick as DM. But as I said I'm not comparing but you never know what you have until you give them a chance to show you.

I don't care about the bollocks about Scottish football being weak, Celtic and Rangers don't get hammered in the champions league, but DM took a little unfancied team up and did not look out of place.

I know I'm going to get shot down by some on here who think they are managers, and that they can get City performing, but if you are as good as you think you are why are you not a football league manager AVB and Jose showed that you don't need to play before!

I'm a manager and I get the best that I feel I can out of people, but I'm not a football manager.

'It's funny reading Red Robins and Onefor's response it is always never thought he was good enough'

And they might say your predictable response is equally funny.
McInnes has had 30 odd games to save City from relegation and his choice/tactics/motivation of players has failed miserably.
I'm no lover of GJ but he's saved Yeovil in half the time.
I don't care if Yeovil go down next year, GJ's 'brief' was to keep them up - McInnes had the same 'brief'.

McInnes, barring a miracle, has failed.

First of all let me set the record straight.....I did not say that I wanted Jones, although I believe he would have been a much better option.
Yes, Scottish football is weak, the only two clubs that would compete in the Championship is Celtic & Rangers.....Just. As for the rest, forget it.

Answer a question......Why & What has convinced you that DM is any good?

As Redprintt says and what I've been saying. DM was taken away from St Johnstone, brought here to save us from relegation.
Although the season is not over yet, we are in the bottom three and would be bottom two had it not been for the misfortune of Portsmouth........That in my book is failure for the job in hand.
He's had the January transfer sales, he's brought in loan players but we are still playing dire (mainly hoofball) football and bottom three.

I've not called for his head as I've had everything crossed that he would be able to turn it around, but I am losing that belieif.......There is nothing on the pitch that shows signs of improvement.

Do not think that the comments I made were a dig at you, I have had a conversation before with you regarding this issue and believe you are someone to have a discussion with even though we don't agree on this subject.

I agree with you what we are watching at the moment is hoof ball and I even commented on Saturday that I feel DM got his tactics completely wrong. So I'm not someone that is stuck in a rut on this one, what I have seen is a team that is low on confidence and want to get rid of the ball ASAP to relieve them of pressure. And I do hold DM accountable for this.

But I also believe that he has not been backed in the January transfer window, I was told on Saturday don't know how factual but the latest 3 loanees DM wanted a while ago but was told he can't have them, injuries and suspensions changed the boards minds.

What I like about him is his past within the game, to take on the two in Scotland and receive compliments from the fans, and also Owen Coyle could not praise him enough along with a few others within the game. I seriously think that there is more to come from him, once he has his own squad. I don't want a team who changes managers at a wim.

I have said I will give him till he has a preseason under his belt, and also told you on a previous thread that if I'm wrong I will appoligize to you and Red Robin.

I don't think that some Scottish teams are as weak as we think maybe bring back the Anglo Scottish cup to prove this. We see the Scottish teams play top Prem teams and to be honest there is a huge gap in between Championship and Premiership top half.

And I mentioned Jones because he seems to be the one that most refer back to.

If this is all mumble jumble it's because I'm typing on iPad and the viewing pane has gone tiny sorry, so hard to check

Well you have acknowledged what I don't like about Del's style, I understand that at times we need to grind out a result, but even with that ploy it's not working.
Take Wigan, fighting for their lives to stay in the prem, but do you see them hoofing the ball? Rarely.. They have won 3 games on the bounce by playing football, they could still go down but persevering with their style IMO is the right way.

I would be as keen as you if we tried to play football even though in a relegation position....It would give me hope that what ever happens next season could be exciting what ever division.
But I just don't see it with DM. I know, all are saying "wait till he gets his own players" but I'm not convinced. So far in most departments, Del is failing.

So, how many players has DM bought and how many loanees has he played in one game - the answer is not enough to turn around a squad bereft of confidence and ability and which has been failing for the best part of 2 seasons (but is capable of turning in a performance now and again)...

You keep banging the same old drum one4 but explain to me how a manager is supposed to suddenly and magically become King Canute and transform a poor squad into a good one, I'm all ears...

Whatever happens, the temprament and personality of the squad will change next year - you keep banging on about GJ and his little gang, well I'll tell you what - next year DM will have his own little gang that WILL want to play for him, the difference being that they won't be average players over performing, they will be ones WITH ABILITY...

I just hope DM uses Swansea, Blackpool and Norwich as a blueprint on how to progress forwards in footballing terms.

I want players who are intelligent, use the ball well and are patient. I believe in DM and want him to succeed but I fear our battle is almost lost this season. Next season the rebuilding starts and if we use the ethos of the clubs mentioned above we may, just may create a more sustainable approach for when we return to the Championship or to push towards mid-table next season if we can pull it out of the bag in the few games remaining.

Well Prem, by the sound of it you are really convinced by DM, something we will both have to agree to disagree.
It would be interesting, just to know what the board allowed him to bring in, that is the main question.
You sound convinced that all of a sudden, Del will bring in an array of talent next season and everything is gonna be alright.......Where you get that from I do not know. Is DM all of a sudden a magician?
Sorry mate, but I think you are backing the man you wanted in and sticking by it and won't concede that he has failed in the job that he was brought into do.
If he can't, handle, control or motivate the players we have, to put in a good performance, then he's no manager at this level in my book.
By the way, I know it's league 1 (which could be where we'll be next season) but GJ, went to Yeovil to make sure they didn't go down to league 2. By the look of it..JOB DONE. Like someone else said, he could well come back to haunt us. Ironic.

Has he? Have I missed the last 6 games then, cos last time I looked we had to play our nearest rivals around us and it was still in our own hands?

Seems to me despite your, "lets see if he does the job required" It's you that has made your mind up long ago that he wasn't good enough and never was going to be?

GJ and LJ aren't coming back.. let it go..
