Was Andy C clever at engineering pens when he played at Newcastle?

When he was younger and still a lad he dived quite a bit, but eventually he bulked up and learned to stay on his feet.

Now it seems he's gone back to diving.

Was that when he was in playing in the Championship, or when he became a £35m player!

I thought that. Championship season he often looked to go down too easily rather than using his massive frame to bully centre halfs, but he started to cut it out shortly before promotion and certainly in the Premiership. Today he seemed to have gone backover, falling over with minimal (or zero) contact including that fantastic slide into the advertising hoardings. He could be an absolute Shearer-esque beast, but he's happier to attempt to win soft free kicks in not particularly dangerous positions.

His diving was embarrassing, you're right he did have trouble at one time remaining upright, I honestly used to wonder about how easily he went down.
He did at one time seem to toughen up, looking to exploit his opponents today though.

Wehn he was just starting to play under Hughton and find his feet in the championship, he dived quite a lot.

When he started scoring often and maturing physically and mentally, he stopped with the diving. Now he's gone back to diving since he's joined Liverpool

Maybe it's just something that Dogleash likes them to try in order to get easy goals from pens.

I'm beginning to think Carroll couldn't bear to score against us and dived, rather like when Chopra "botteld" it against us and passed when he should have shot. Perhaps they're still Black and White?

He needs to learn how to do it better. I'm sure Stevie Me and the Gopher can give him some pointers. I've given up on the diving thing and feigning injury now, they're all at it. We have one of the worst divers in Jonas. Difference is he has been taught how to do it properly and you can barely tell at times. Obviously Cheik and Perch have been partaking in some rather comical feigning of injuries of late, and Stevie Taylor is the champ in the ridiculous behaviour stakes. Its not nice and we call opposing tems players for doing but that is the right of a fan! I think you just have to accept that every team is at it, and its a case of, if you can't beat them, join them. Make no mistake, if Steven Gerrard had been in Perch's situation, he'd have gone down like a sack of tatties too.

Yesterday could not have been scripted better. I was personally disappointed we chose not to recognise Jose's service, but that's the way it is now. For him to end up in goal, Carroll (who I thought was the one thorn in our side and won everything aerially) storming down the tunnel, and Bellers getting the old heave ho, it couldn't have gone better. Bellamy is the worst of the trio as far as being a figure of hatred given his comments about fans and club, and seeing his scowling little ugly face being withdrawn was the highlight for me. Looked sick as a chip.

My mate is convinced he didn't want to score. Personally I think it had nothing to do with that. I think he was trying to get Krul sent off along with the goal. Would have been a game winning moment from him. The banter between players would have been at fever pitch, and I think he was trying to get the ultimate one up on his pal Krul.

They get on well having come through the youth system together. But everything is fair game when it comes to getting one up on the football field. Just the way it is. Carroll and Steven Taylor are a bit stand offish! <laugh>

Jonas doesn't dive. He finds ways to win free-kicks to relieve pressure, and does it well.

Should have gone to specsavers mate, he's one of the worst in the league and the absolute master when it comes to diving. His favourite and to be fair, a favourite of most south americans, is the old stretch out your leg so there is contact with theirs and then begin your tumble. Stevie Me is one the English players to master this art, Michael Owen too.

But to suggest Jonas is not a diver is biased beyond belief. I don't like diving but its part of the game for evermore now.

Precisely, what you have described there is not diving, its winning a free-kick. He makes sure there is contact and goes down, he doesn't do a Kuqi belly-flop over a players leg. The same as Dzeko's pen on Sat, there was contact.

In the same way as you, I don't believe it should be a free-kick, but in the rules of the game nowadays, it is, and so Jonas is excellent at WINNING free-kicks, not diving.
