For me compared to what City had, you shouldn't be close, but you are and that is actually a compliment to you! You lot know how to play to your style, cope with injuries, play as a team, etc.

This is showing right now that City aren't as deep and together as United and hence why you will probably win the league. Now, I stand by my statement in that of United sides past this is one is a shadow of many of those title winning sides. Going back to 09 where we got 2nd and that team that just tore through the league compared to this one.

It is OK if I don't rate your side, but then again, our side has demons, monsters, ghosts, and all sorts of **** wrong with it.

  2. The defender who handled it on the line should have been off too. The game would have been abandoned <laugh>

  3. I agree with Swarbs here. Man City have the best team and players but Man Utd have the best team mentality. Man Utd have a system they play and stick to, their approach is 'this is how we play, come and beat us' and they do what they need to do week in week out. That is what the Liverpool of old used to do.

Man City swap and change things too much. they started the season attacking teams but as the season as progressed they have slowly decline to their Italian managers defensive ways again.

IMO, Mancini has made it hard for Man City, not Fergie!

  4. Halved would be:

    Dalglish: Played 32.5, won 15.5, drawn 8, lost 9.

That is still better than Roy, much better football too including that last couples of games were we have been awful!

Hodgson = 1.62 points per game
Kenny = 1.67 points per game

If city win the league they'll have the best team. I personally think they won't but we'll see. United have the better team, the clue is in the word. Team. City might well have some players that are better than ours, and I'll be honest in saying i would take less than five of their whole squad, but they're miles off us as a team.

  6. I had a similar debate to this in the pub earlier today. One mate said Barcelona are the best team in the world but another mate said they can't be because Real Madrid are ahead of them in the league. I think the key difference is the words team and squad. IMO, Barcelona have the best team (starting eleven) but Real Madrid have the better squad.

With Man City and Man Utd, I think Man City have the better players but Man Utd are the better team. Subtle, but there is a difference <ok>

Yeah, I agree up to a point but the reason Barcelona are a better team than Real Madrid is that they are the current La Liga champions and CL winners and have proved themselves to be. Until such time as Real win the league off Barca, Barca are better.

City haven't. In fact City have done nowt, unless of course them winning the FA cup last season means they're the best English side!

If I picked a combined 11 of United and City there would be more United players in it than City players.

  8. I don't agree with that bit but then, if you pick a side combining both teams players you would lose the team spirit and harmony that makes Man Utd so good.

    Hart
    Richards - Kompany - Vidic - Evra
    Valencia
    - Toure - De Jong - Silva
    Rooney - Aguero

    Mine would be;

    Hart
    Jones
    Vidic
    Kompany
    Evra
    Valencia
    Toure
    Silva
    Young (or Nani)
    Rooney
    Aguero.

Couple of other close calls as well as the Young/Nani thing but that would be the one I pick, playing 4 4 2.

If they played 4 3 3 then I would have Carrick Toure and Silva behind Young Valencia and Rooney so even less City players.

Significantly, the so called super forwards they have like Nasri, Ballotelli, Tevez, and Dzjeko wouldn't even get close. No chance.

I'd have Johnson play before that lot.

  10. To be fair, both teams have some excellent players so it is very difficult to pick a side. I was trying to stick to a standard 442 but, if I really had to pick a side from the two clubs, there is no way I would chose that system. And I think Aguero would have to be in any team chosen so Rooney would get pushed out wide or in the hole if it wasn't 442, with other players such as Silva, Nasri, Valencia, Nani, etc that is quite a competitive area <ok>

I'd find it hard to argue with this, although I might tuck Silva in for De Jong and have Young or Nani on the left. Might throw the balance off though.
Yaya Toure is the midfielder Arsenal and United have been looking for for years. City's best player IMO. It's him who sets the tempo of the game more than Silva.

Your a United fan so I'd expect you to say that, but individually City are vastly superior to United in every aspect, but United are a team and have played together for years and can/will dig deep unlike City.

    Hart

    Richards
    Kompany

    Vidic
    Evra

    Valencia
    Toure
    Silva

    Nani

    Aguero
    Rooney

As a Liverpool fan you won't realise this but Football is a squad game.

In terms of First XI, City shade it. But in terms of squad depth on paper City would piss all over United. Players like Hargreaves and Johnson aren't even getting a look in at City.

If I could pick a bench from 7 players, beyond the first XI's De Gea and Smalling are the only United players I'd have. The rest would all be City.

City should have won the league this season and would have but for Mancini, they won't win the league with him in charge. Not while Fergie is there.

You'd have him ahead of Lescott and Toure?

Definitely I hugely rate Smalling and for me he is a far better defender than anyone else at their club bar Vidic.

Jones and Ferdinand shouldn't be near the United team, it's no wonder they were found out in Europe against teams that attack potently <ok>

Lescott and Toure are not good enough to be playing for City, not if they want to win titles <ok>

Vastly superior, then picks the very same team as i did with the only difference being the right back! Yep, city are so vastly superior in every aspect that the next time they play they could possibly be eight points behind a vastly inferior team.

Hargreaves isn't fit enough to play for the reserves. Berbatov was the league's top scorer last season an he rarely makes our bench now.

And yet on the pitch our squad is pissing all over City's. As soon as City lose Kompany, Toure, Silva or Aguero they go to pieces, the replacements just don't cut it. Football isn't played on paper, and never has been.

And Hargreaves and Johnson wouldn't get a look in at Utd either - Hargreaves has gone to pieces, and Nani, Valencia, Young, Giggs and Welbeck have all been better than Johnson this year.

P.S. After some fannying around, the banter thread now has a permanent sticky redirect up the top of the Utd board <ok>

City have bottled it pure and simple.

they got back into the game on saturday 1-1, after conceeding oen they came out and dominated sunderland unitl they scored... they then promplty fell back, conceeded two and then came out attacking again... no team spirirt, no confidence in each other.

Simply put utd have the team spirit and demand to win and play at 100% effort that city lack. city to finish second and mancini to get the sack.
