I hear the rubbish all the time and its a myth and i'll tell you why, Man city have fans from london despite what they say about having local support, Liverpool have fans from there as well so i don't why the ABU'S keep saying we have fans from there, we are thee most popular club in the world. Thoughts ?
They may well come from London but is it that simple? What about those kids who support UTD because their dad/grandad etc do/did but were not born in manchester due to moving away for work etc? What gets me more than teh ABU's saying it is the locals thinking they are 'better' fans due to locality
Simple answer They try to get UTD fans to bite, and Daff, you just have. UTD have a large world wide fanbase and other fans are jealous they only have about 25 fans per team
My daughter was born in Moscow. At some point I'm going to have to sit her down and explain that she has to stop supporting Utd and start supporting Spartak, Loca or CSKA. Can't have her being a 'plastic' now...
Mate, what I mean is football is GLOBAL. Ask a villager in Somalia about a football team and he'll mention Manchester United. Smaller clubs should stop playing this card because in reality MUFC too big for it to apply. Manchester United is said to have around 700 millions fans world wide. That is bigger than Europe's population! A Chelsea fan may come to you and say: "At least I support my local team", but really and truly, there is no way 700 million fans will be able to be Manchester locals. Everyone has got to accept that Manchester United is a much bigger brand and the small club rules can't apply.
I was born in Manchester and support United as my Dad did. I now live in Cambridge after moving for work and when I have kids I'll be damned if they support anyone other than United! I'll put them up for adoption if they do! Lol. So long as someone supports a team through thick and thin then they are a true fan regardless of where they are born.
When I went to Old Trafford last season there were more United fans travelling back on Coaches and trains to London than Chelsea fans. Says it all really, it certainly isn't a myth. Birmingham is even worse, you'd swear you lived within a mile of OT with the amount of United shirts you see there. Liverpool is the same, I was in Euston after a Merseyside Derby and the place was flooded with Pool fans coming back from the game.
