Since Dalglish returned to the club we have repeatedly been complimented for our passing game. We have shown that we can out pass any team and dictate play swiftly. This is an impress skill to have. Especially so soon into a managers reign. But! We are not getting results. We are greatly an incredible amount of chances but not scoring them. I have been thinking. Have we gone to fancy to soon? Should we be starting with some simpler tactics and building from that instead of jumping right into the deep end? Slow and steady wins the race and all that. So. Is it to much to soon?
My exact thoughts And, besides that, the basics have been very good this season. The defense as been excellent, the passing has been great with us dominating possession in most games and we have been creating lots of chances. It is the more technical part of putting the ball in the net that is the problem!
Ironically, I think that problem is the exact opposite. I think we take too long with the majority of opportunities, we knock it about and are too patient at times.
Trying to score the perfect goal. Arsenal style. How about a hoof up field by Carragher, flicked on by Carroll, scored by Suarez. What I mean is, maybe we should slow down a bit and not rushed to making loads of passes. Some of our players have a habit of rushing there shot instead of placing it. Though I think thats partly down to nerves.
You can't really take your time with a shot in EPL but I know what you mean. We certainly don't need to slow the passing down though, if anything we need to speed it up from time to time. We shouldn't look to play at one pace, the passing should be slow, slow, slow, fast, fast sort of thing. Let the opposition think they have control but then speed it up and move them about.
The problem was we built the team around Carroll in the summer, not Suarez. Now that Carroll STILL hasn't shown his Newcastle form, we are stuck with players who really do not suit Suarez. Everything in the media is pointing towards us building the team around Suarez in the summer, which will be great news for us, and should see much better results on the pitch.
I'm not keen about building around 1 player. If they leave it get a major injury it is a major set back.
Its what most teams do though, Arsenal are built around Van Persie, Barca are built around Messi, Madrid around Ronaldo, Milan around Ibrahimovic, Man Utd around Rooney (used to be Ronaldo), Man City around Silva etc. There's other important cogs in the machine at every team there, but the formation is always geared to getting the best out of their best player.
I'd rather build around a system than a player. You could say Rafa build around Gerrard and Torres. But ultimately I'd say he aimed to build around the 4231 formation. Gerrard and Torres lead the front, but Mascerano and Alonso were equally vital, as we found out after they left.
