Just wondering how anyone on here does on Footy Manager with City? I am currently in feb and first by 5 points with reading breathing down my neck in second What signings have you made and what formation you go ect?
I'm still playing 2011, but I imagine the young kids I've signed will still be good on 2012 so: Dennis Appiah (RB, Monaco), Jerome Roussillon (LB/LW, some French club), Lukas Digne (might be Lucas, LB, another French club). All French and 17/18 signed on loan with a view to a permanent. Man U and Arsenal are generally after them, and as a Championship club they won't sign a permanent deal but I signed them on season long loans with prices agreed, then once I was promoted (when it updates the leagues and makes you a PL club in the summer) they would discuss terms with me. Gael Nlundulu as well on a free at the start of the game is good as back up to Stewart. I've actually got us playing a 4231, but it's coincidence because I was doing it before we started doing it for real. Stewart is better as an attacking right midfielder than as a right midfielder, and I've got Koren, Cairney, and Bullard in the squad so I want to play at least two of them every game. I think I had Donal McDermott on loan in the first season to play left wing, but it's been a while since I was on it and I can't remember who I've replaced him with (I've not played any games in the second season to have the names in my head)
The game has it down as a 4-2-4, but it's just a 4-4-2 with attacking wingers. Unrealistically top after signing one guy - Simpson is ridiculously good as a poacher. 24 goals in 20 games. A simple Balanced, Standard seems to work pretty well but the problem with the game is that once teams 'Find you out' you go in a unbelievably **** run of form that lasts about half a season
The thing about FM is you can spend as much time as you like doing all the intricate tactics and stuff, plan every little thing to the Nth degree and sort all your training methods out. But it's much easier to just find a striker or winger with a pace of 16 or above and they will just **** everyone up. It's ridiculous how really good technical players do nothing but anyone a bit quick is a world-beater, regardless of the rest of their stats. I find the more realistic you try to make it the harder it gets. People who just have a starting XI that lasts the whole season do better than me if I spend ages setting the team up for every match.
I seem to always have a pretty crap first year and then go on a roll for the next few on 2012. Haven't been on it in a while though. If anyone uses the editor (basically cheating) you can do anything. I edited 2010 and brought Pele, Maradonna, Beckenbauer etc out of retirement and made a legends team. I took Berlusconi from Milan as my owner and put Mourinho as my assistant. Gets pretty boring after a while but amused me at first.
I've just about given up with FM12 keep having problems getting it working again when I close down my computer, On FM11 I became such a good manager for the tigers they built a new stadium and named it after me
I think they've overdone a lot of things too, ie each week there seem to be 8 red cards and 14 injuries throughout the league, along with 12 stoppage-time equalisers/winners - despite all their efforts to make it the most realistic game possible, it's like their happy to trade it all in in the name of excitement. Frankly it's failed, all it does is piss me off I remember at one stage around Christmas as City, I had to name Gavin Holohan in my side and have Under 18s on the bench because we were just that injury hit, along with a couple of suspensions. Having said that, the latest patch seems to have calmed it down a bit in terms of injuries/sending offs - but late goals are still too frequent.
If Pele is in there how far back does the database go? Could you bring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle out of retirement as well?
Just thought I'd post an update, won the league with two games to go please log in to view this image Oh yeah and TWS went down.
I'm sure if we were in Donny's position Tickler would be saying the 29 goal turnaround in 4 games (2 wins for Donny and 2 defeats for Leicester) was still possible.
Problem with FM is that the Match Engine itself has to many flaws in it. FM12 took over the FMLive match engine which was one of the main reasons FML went down the drain. The thing with it is pace is far overrated, and passing styles of football are actually hard to replicate within FM and the ME is not actually set up for them. Like PLT said the intricate things are the best way to go about it, but they are useless as a chocolate fireguard at times. FM13 doesn't have any major changes to the Match Engine unfortunately as of yet.
I'm still playing 2010 and have got harrogate town form blue square north to the championship in 7 seasons
That isn't quite true. FML used the FM match engine and became testers of sorts as every change they made to it was then played out by each of the gameworlds. FML went down the drain as people didn't like losing. The game was set up to have few winners and plenty of losers as only one person could win a league title each season. There are few people who wanted to play the long game improving season by season. Remember on FM it is easy to win and if you can't win then many cheat by whatever means. On FML there wasn't really that opportunity. FML would have survived with a hybrid of FML and FM by having each league of 10 clubs populated by half humans and half AI clubs. That way many more people would have an opportunity of winning their league with the human vs human element becoming more of a focus with inter league cups etc Agree that pace is over-rated, however on a recent patch they have made it more difficult to score from corners which I suppose is a big positive
FML was brilliant, if you got into a decent game world it was a whole lot of fun. After one season the user activity dropped like a lead balloon. Shame really.
True - really enjoyed FML - so much so that I never played FM much at all during the time the game existed. Took me a long long time to get back into FM following FMLs demise http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/277331-FM12-Hull-City-AFC-We-all-love-Cash-Converters....
Exactly the same with me. I never played any FM until FML was finally put out of its misery. Playing against real people in a community you know can't be beaten. I wish they could have solved its problems.
It wasn't that easy to score from corners before unless you had the right players. I went half a season without getting a single goal (sounds familiar) and then signed a couple of CBs who got 15 between them by the end of that season. (and on any reboots I've gone looking for them from the start)
