Some players are self-motivated and Hughes was an example himself as a player. However, other players need to be carefully managed and motivated to get the best out of them.

Hughes comes across as a dull, drab, dour man. Has he got what it takes to inspire players?

He has not shown much of that yet! Adel is now working back, but seemingly at the expense of his creativity going forward.

In Hughes, you have one of the top four managers in the premiership.
And Zamora is in the top three c/f,you certainly got a bargain from Fulham on this one.

    I wouldn't bother with a venture into stand-up comedy

Unlike your owner with his MJ statue of course.......

Don't know. I'd have to spend a week in the team to find out first hand whether he has any motivational skills or not!

I haven't seen him getting passionate, excited or angry yet. Let's hope he does all this stuff behind closed doors.... but somehow I doubt it. (We all know Warnock could do it.)

"We needed Winston Churchill, we got Iain Duncan-Smith"

    Which makes Hughes: William Hague

Comes across as a level headed methodical system kinda of manager to me. Can't imagine him giving a rallying awe-inspiring pre game speech myself. So dull, drab and dour it is then.

Yeah, dull, drab and dour, just like Alf Ramsey, Bill Paisley, Marcelo Lippi, Capello, and dozens of other crap managers who never achieved anything. If a player on say a puny £15k a week, an obviously limited time on his career and a chance to shine in the premier league needs 'motivation' I would suggest a brain scan as well.

Hughes was a self motivated, competitive and fiery player. You can't instill these traits in a player, or in any person. They come naturally or not at all. He was and is a winner, and winners hate losing. He was also very successful as a player and in fairness has a pretty good record as a manager. I have no doubt that given enough time our team will eventually show the same characteristics. The so called "experts always say that a team mirrors it's manager. Well if this is true, i for one would like MH standing beside me in a trench. Give the man a chance, God himself would struggle with the team and the set of circumstances that MH has had since he came.

100% this or then again I could guess and assume he's crap and slag him off on the eve of a massive game. He presents a level headed calm persona to the media which means he doesn't give much away. If you want a clue as to what he can be like just remember his reaction to Jol's attempt to pat his head after the Fulham game. My guess is he can fire himself up pretty well!!
