The Beeb just announced it as I flicked on the TV. I'll add the story when one's up on the site. http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/143633.html Apparently he got in trouble for calling the ref a ****ing disgrace. Drogba got 6 for the samething didn't he?
http://www.uefa.com/uefa/footballfi...rss=1777101 Three-match suspension for Wenger Arsenal FC manager Arsène Wenger has been suspended from carrying out his function for three UEFA competition matches by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body. Wenger has also been fined â¬40,000. He was facing a charge of improper conduct in relation to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg against AC Milan in London on 6 March. The suspension applies to the next three UEFA club competition matches for which Wenger will be eligible. An appeal may be lodged against the verdict within three days of the dispatch of the reasoned decision.
It's not the first time Wenger has thrown his toys out the pram. It is disappointing to see such respected managers as SAF and Wenger behaving so badly in public. I hate this current culture in football nowadays with diving and systematic abuse that goes on the pitch. If Rugby players and managers can show respect, then i'm sure their MUCH BETTER PAID footballing counterparts can STFU!
He went over to the ref at the end of the game, didn't he? Either way, still ****ing stupid and easily avoidable of him, has only himself to blame.
It was meant to be a general comment and in agreement with you. As for the soft banning, they may have just had enough of his silliness and just went over the top. I want Wenger to calm down and concentrate on the team...
It's in the Mail Most other stories seem to think it's atleast in part the confrontation with the ref after the game that's to blame. The comments in his post match interview were well documented so as you say, it wouldn't make sense for them to take so long to ban him.
Your club is a joke. Almost as much as your posts on here where you seem to think beating benfica makes you a good side. Good luck vs real teams in the semis mate
We won't finish fourth. We're looking good for third. And if citeh implode, who knows..... maybe even second! A far cry from five or six months ago
I would absolutely love a Man City implosion, more than a Spurs one. But somehow with all the players they have, it seems unlikely.....
Third is ours to lose, fingers crossed our form remains and we improve further still. We are still far too open but, whilst we are winning games, I couldn't give a toss. Hopefully we can address the leakiness in the summer ... during the hosepipe ban
I think most of the top managers do it almost deliberately. I'm not sure it is exactly cricket, but there is no doubt in my mind that Fergie and Mourino get better calls from the referees because they know they are going to get a public slagging if they call marginal calls against them. I don't think Wenger or Mourino are as good at it as Fergie, but I think it adds to the fun. Missing a few group games next year in the stands isn't going to be the worst thing and it has an additional benefit that he builds team spirit when he does this. In ameican sport, particularly baseball there is a big tradition of managers getting thrown out of games to try and rally teams. What you are saying without doubt and in Public is, "You should have won. The ref was bad." (Whether it is true or not.)
it'll be fun watching Arsenal and Chelsea knocking seven bells out each other in a couple of weeks time, for 4th place
A quote from Totsfan before the NLD. I would stop being so sure of what is going happen in the future, if I was you.
On Wenger and the ban, well not shocked that he had a word or two with the ref after the game. That ref had the whistle glued to his mouth it seemed at times. The Milan players came out in the second half with the tactic of falling to the floor as many times as possible, in order to disrupt the game. The ref was not strong enough and never allowed the game to flow.
I think it's stupid that referees aren't allowed to be held accountable or taken to task over their performance in public. Yes, I've heard the reasons why but how do we expect refs to improve? Referees aren't perfect and they will make mistakes but when they make obvious errors then I think it's only fair that they are critcized in a reasonable manner.
