Yes it is a funny old game, and yes it is possible but I just do not believe it will happen.

Can Pompey beat us at SMS? Do Muslims eat pork scratchings?

In readiness for a high-scoring game, the electronic scoreboards at SMS will be switched off for the day and an old-fashioned cricket scrore-board will be installed with Geoffrey Boycott, 'Aggers' and 'Beefy' doing the match commentary <cheers>

Even though I suspect you posted this thread just so that you could call Saints "SCUM" yet again (yawn) you must surely be aware that in any football game it possible to win. Perhaps you could look at Pompey's away form and our home form to see if it's likely? Probably not, but anything is possible.

    Our home form: W15 D3 L2
    Your away form: W2 D5 L13

8 wins in our last 10 games, unbeaten in 12.

I fully expect a Saints win.

SB3 is right though. Football is a funny game. Of course you are hot favourites. Top of the league, terrific home form, our shiote away form etc etc. But remember 1988? Nothing is impossible, especially in a derby game.

Your absents on the board will confirm a Southampton win, and then your complete disappearance will confirm Portsmouths relegation and the Top Club in the Souths promotion to the Premier league.
You have one week left singingbluerinse3 to possibly dribble a little longer.

    3-2 Saints me thinks.

I have already written this game off as a loss - but then again I also wrote of Brum and Hull games.

Welcome to the joy of football - who knows what will happen!

Maybe worth a small flutter on a PFC win though with the odds stacked against them!

I think the stress of the doomsday scenario at the Fratton Shed is getting to you.
Don,t really know the best words to describe your inane mutterings, although total tosser springs

If Pompey win tomorrow and we lose at Blackpool the derby match will become a far more interesting affair. Had the match been played a few weeks back, a score line in excess of 4-0 in Saint's favour would not have been unrealistic . As pointed out, Southampton have won a considerable number of home matches even if the last two matches have seen it take until the second half before we looked like winning. Even on man-to-man basis, I think all of the current Portsmouth squad would be unable to break into the Southampton starting eleven. You would have to say that Saints are favourites for this match.

However, although this is a derby and current form usually gets thrown out of thr window, it is a game of nerves as neither team can afford to lose. A draw is useless to both teams although I think Portsmouth now look like staying up regardless of next Saturday's result. Logically this match is a home-banker but I felt the same in the game from 1988 when every Saints fan expected an easy win and the team froze on the day with Steve Baker having an absolute nightmare. I don't think an away win is impossible and perhaps less unlikely than a few weeks ago. I think this is going to be another repeat of the Fratton Park bore and end up as a draw. The ideal scenario would be a repeat of the same kind of massacre inflicted on us when we were ripped to threads at FP during our last season in the Premiership but with the result in our favour. That would be just desserts for probably my most humiliating experience as a Saints fan when Perrin's team absoluted destroyed Saints during whole 90 mnutes.

Shock win? Like Barnet beating Man Utd? Thank you for that great compliment.

What is this obsession with Pompey fans calling as 'scum or scummers'?

I truly find this pathetic that there are grown ups, families etc...that think it's morally right to call someone else a name simply for the colour of the shirt they choose to wear every Saturday.

    It really is pathetic... <doh>

I look at these people and just think 'how empty is your life...'

Even sadder, I watched the Fratton game back yesterday and there was a Pompey fan who was shouting at Lallana who was about to take a corner. You didn't need to be great at lip-reading to see what abuse he was spouting, his face contorted in pure hatred. From his wheelchair! What a charmer!
