The title is currently two horse race except something catastophe happens, the first and second is between the two Manchester clubs third position is not yet settled Spurs can catch Arsenal, I do not know if Chelsea and Newcastle can make it. but in football anything can happen. No one can say with certainty that Chelsea cannot win the champion league.Liverpool were the underdogs in 2005 and they surprised every one including themselves too. So, if Chelsea wins the champion league this year and failed to finish in the top four, what happened in the case of |Liverpool is not going to be repeated Everton finished 4th in 2005 while Liverpool finished 5th.The Uefa rules did not make provision for champion to defend their crown;every one came together in England, Everton were asked to step down but they refused. Uefa were forced to change the rules that year, Liverpool were compelled to play qualifying rounds. In the group stage Everton were in the group of death. That year England had five clubs in the Champion league, Man Utd , Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton were in the champion league. If the two London clubs Arsenal and Spurs occupied the last two champion league spots, the one that finish 4th have to step down for Chelsea, no appeal done and dusted this term round. It would also be a joy for Londoners that for the first time a London club is the winner of champion league.
IMO if arsenal take 3rd and chelsea win the cl or finish 4th even.... I'd laugh so hard at spurs.... the arrogance of redknapp talking about first winning the league then 3rd was minimum etc etc... very very funny. after that i really don't much care cos we all know real and barca are going to be in this final. spurs to play chelsea in the fa cup semi and that will be interesting.... finally.... redknapp for england? good luck!
I don't think Liverpool represented England in the 2006 Champions League, they were a [country] neutral team with no country protection (and the least TV money rights if I remember rightly). I'd like Chelsea to win it, more so for Di Matteo than anyone. I think it would make him a shock favourite for the job full time, especially if he manages to have them claw 4th place too
I think we should focus on LFC and hope we will have these problems next season tbh! I dont' give a rats ar$e about any other team. Except Utd - I want them to lose every game they play. Christ I want their U7 girls team to lose every game they play! But that's just the way things are and the way they should be.
It is all conjecture of course. Because I cannot see this Chelsea beating Barcelona never mind winning the champions league. The Mourinho one possibly but this one as Lampard said is not as good.
started to warm to chelsea but then drogba reminded me against napoli of the type of players i hate. hope they win nowt
Dunno why some of you dont like spurs but each o their own...your owner and manager said top 4 was a must for this season so I dont see any difference to what redknapp said. Personally if we got 4th and still missed out it will be very disappointing but Chelsea would deserve their place....the truth is no one thought we'd get top 4 at the beginning of the season. It was going be Chelsea, city and united with either arsenal or pool 4th and 5th. Your cup win was good (I hate it being called Mickey mouse) and you beat some good teams to win it but league wise you have crashed and burned considering how much you have spent ib the past 18 months...you really remind me of spurs under Ramos and that didnt end well for him! Chelsea
It's more the fact that they were 3rd and now they're starting to let it slip. Yes our manager and owner's said top 4 was a must and I didn't expect us to get it in the first place but Spurs were 3rd and are now 4th. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up finishing 5th. I think this is why people will laugh at them, as not long ago they were giving it all big on here and now they're letting it slip and are on course to finish 5th
Thats the problen with the net...people make dicks of themselves and then we are all tarred with same brush. I want us to get in CL for obviius reasons but also so it can show that its not always a foregone conclusion...but I do fear the worst.
Were Chelsea and Liverpool not in the same group (in Group stage that season.)? If I can remember they both got through the group stage.
We topped the group actually, only to fall to Simao and Benfica, Simao, another name blocked from coming over
Yeh shame some people are dick's like that but everyone's different and I don't blame you for getting excited about things. But it was the arrogance of some of the supporters that really wound me up which I'd happily laugh at if Spurs do end up finishing 5th
Did they? Do you have a quote? Because it seemed to me top 4 was a target. The target is on a wish list, not a pre-requirement for anything. At the Carling Cup final they were talking only about progress, which has been achieved so they're happy. They'd have been happier with top 4 but it wasn't a must have. A European place will also be seen as a plus for them, considering they have a keen eye for markets.
Quote...? My understanding was that Henry said top four is them aim, he never mentioned when by and he never mentioned a minimum target for this season either! Not making excuses, we have not been good enough and I am sure FSG would have wanted us to do better in the league than we have. Merely pointing out what you put is wrong
Yes, along with Real betis and Anderlect We played Benfica in the first knockout game and lost. Chelsea played Barcelona at the same stage and lost. Benfica and Barcelona then played each other.
