and Rickie Lambert. Although I think their best player is Morgan Schneiderlin. He's a top player and still young, plus he's played at every level of French national football from U16 to U21.
somoa will get you 15-20 goals a season? Wow, make him 1st choice then! Oh he is not? Maybe thats because he is an average championship striker who wont get you that many goals and all leeds fans but one will agree that is a ridiculous comment.
Maybe that's because he's been injured for ages, you helmet. He played 24 games' worth of football last season if you tot up all his full 90 minute appearances plus times he was subbed on/off, and in those he scored 12 goals. Replicate that over a season and he's easily good for 15-20 goals if not more. I don't like his playing style amd think McCormack's a far better option, but it can't be denied that Somma gets goals.
Well using basic mathematics: Ken Bates' passion for selling every asset that Leeds have + Somma being a striker worthy of up to 20 goals (which is an incredible amount for any striker in the CCC) = surely lots of CCC teams will be vying for his services come the summer? Especially as he isn’t part of you're 1st choice partnership.
I doubt there'll be too many Championship teams clamouring to get a player who's missed an entire season of football. Whether he stays with us or not will be entirely dependant on whether we deem him to have returned to his old self or not. I wouldn't put him in our starting line-up, but there's no other player at this level I'd rather have on the bench if a goal is needed.
if he is that good then why do you fans not see him in your strongest line up? This is one of the most ridiculous debates i have ever been in. I am a very level headed fan who see's things prospectively (i still think hobbs and fryatt are quality- not many on here will admit that and gradel cannot be abused to you as having a 'leicester reject'), but this debate about somma is crazy. Decent striker, yes. Will not get you 20 goals a season. Ridiculous.
Look at the post immediately above this one. He's one of the best strikers in the division but he works best from the bench, hence why most of us wouldn't put him in the starting line up.
Jeff Schlupp is one of the greatest players to come off the bench. Probably better than Somma, yet i do not think he is one of the best in the league. Partly due to the fact he cant make a current mid-table starting line up like somma!!!!
I think one of the first things Nigel said when he came here was that he'd 'Build a squad rather than a collection of players'. That has always been his strength in the sense that he's able to get a real team spirit and ethos into a squad which is what we need. He also has an outstanding scout in Steve Walsh who knows a player when he sees one. I've always said that to build properly he needs a summer to work with and I stand by this and given that time period, I definitely back him to get us up there and challenging. Personally, I hope it is the former of your two options. In my opinion, what we need now is continuity both in the playing and coaching staff. I do feel we have the nucleus of a good squad that just needs a settled environment more than anything and definitely not another summer of upheaval. A few shrewd buys (CM, RB and Winger) and a greater emphasis on team ethic is what we need IMO.
Somma struggled to get his career off the ground at the beginning. We're the first club he's had a decent run with.
Doesn't matter. Fact is he's had experience. Schlupp is 19 and has only played in the same leagues that Somma has and Somma has played at many different clubs before. You can't argue that Schlupp is a better prospect and nearly a better striker (despite being over 8 years younger). All stats prove it.
He was just starting to hold down a shirt with Nugent before he got a nasty knee injury Beckford then came in and took his chance
He'd collected about ones season's worth of experience. And of course he's a better prospect, but I'd say he's still a way to go to get to where Somma was last season.
