This always happens when I use Internet Explorer. If you use Google Chrome it will work.

I'm thinking of upgrading to Windows 2000 from Window 95. Do you think I could purchase it at a reduced price & if so is it worth the cost?

    I'm gonna say yes!

On the subject, I've gone through THREE laptops since windows 7 arrived, previous vista on lasted 2.5 years.

Coincidence? Or has anyone else had issues?

I've got a Vaio running Vista that I got in NY about 5 years ago still going fine which I use when traveling.
I got a new Ferrari at the office to replace my Fiat 18 months back with 7 Pro with heaps of Ram, which touch wood if I can find a piece, has been trouble free to date. The staff are on XP with little Ram but then I don't let them onto the net to waste time<laugh>

The one that packed up on Saturday was a Vaio, was absolutely fine, then just wouldn't turn on, no fan, can't get into bios or safe mode, absolute mystery.

I've put it in to try get it repaired, but he is baffled, says there is no visible fault, hard drive etc all ok.

    Annoying.

You have probably already tried this, but have you took the CMOS battery out for a few minutes, then put it back in and tried it?

Tried it without a Battery in

Tried it with another Power cable.

    Other ram/Hdds.

Could be a **** load of things tbh, but the battery in the motherboard would be the first thing i would try.

as for browser, I use Firefox, google is getting far too bloody big, big brother is watching, listening, and logging everything.

    Even with the recovery disk?
If so take the disk out & copy to another computer before putting back in & doing a factory install? I had to do that on my previous Vaio TR 3A ? I later got a VGN-TZ27GN/R to replace it which I currently use. I use Sony camera's hence all my gear on the road is Sony to makes things easier. A little more expensive but incredibly reliable for me over nearly 15 years around the world.

    Steve,

    Tried all that, nothing..

    Kiwi,

If I put a disc in, it starts to spin, then dies, nothing works.

What is it you do, out of interest?

Kind of expect better from Sony, I know Vaio's don't have the best rep, but I've had a few, and this is the first one that's gone wrong.

    Cost a grand as well.

    Good shout.
The only problem I ever had was two motherboard faults with my previous model which after complaining long & LOUD got me the new model in exchange + $100 US . One VERY happy customer!!
Mates with less expensive brands do seem to have more problems however.

The recovery disk option is one way to go & the other to get a factory install on a Vaio Notebook is by holding alt + F10 at boot to start the factory restore process. A great trick I had to use on my old one which saved my life when away overseas a couple of times. Just make sure you have a back up else where!!!

I just found this as well:

Ps: Cheap skate. I spent 1500<laugh>
