Whatsi the problem? We gave Chambo...a World-Class PROSPECT (who has palyed very well I might add) a new better contract Shouldn't we be happy that we are trying to keep our good players?
An excuse ? what a silly over simplification. Do you not think that Wenger and his coaching staff believe that players who are given long contracts have shown enough promise to warrant it ? Why else would they do it ? Do you think that they simply draw lots or something ? No, they make their decisions based on what is presented before them at the time. Obviously they cannot see into the future to know exactly how it will all turn out, that is impossible and not every decision turns out to be right. But as I correctly pointed out, in the eyes of some fans, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't - the Flamini situation is a perfect example. You think it's an excuse - then tell me, take a look at Wenger's record on turning unknown players into top players and then tell me, on balance do you think he's mainly got it right or wrong ?
Another silly over simplification, which simply isn't true Picture the scene: Pat Rice: So Arsene, who do you think we should promote to the first team and offer a long term contract to ? Wenger: Oh I don't know Pat, let's just give them all a contract, one of them is bound to make it and then I can claim that I turned him into a world beater. I doesn't work like that Jayram. The 'throw as much mud and see what sticks' approach might be employed at City or Chelsea, but not at Arsenal.
You are completely wrong mate, clubs up and down the country have massive differences in pay to their players. When Ravanelli went to Middlesborough he was on a reported £42k per week (or was it £52k ??) when the norm was around £10-15K, top earners were around £30k. Even look at semi pro, in one team I was at, one of the players was on £250 per game and others were on £50 per game - that is a massive difference, 5x different. Do you think Miquel is on more than £15K per week ? Do you think Spearing is on anything close to Carragher ? What about Jonny Evans compared to Jones who just joined ? Get real. Your argument is based on fairytales. B52 has never done anything to warrant his pay rise. Denilson YES because he was one of our best players in the 08/09 season. So what that Bendtner scored a few goals in the CL, he was playing due to injuries to others and was never going to be a starter when they were back. Bad management as Jayram says.
Egad man - use logic please. How would the average Joe know about 15/16 year olds in Div 1 clubs ?? We don't even know about the ones in the Premier League.
I'd suggest most Arsenal fans know sweet FA about OUR 16 year-olds. yet everyone seems to think they will dominate Europe as 20 year-olds.
Well then you've just made my point for me you donut Nobody knew about Oxo before Arsenal showed an interest.
plenty DID !! It was Wenger who was brave enough to pay the money - transfer fee, appearances, and wages..
We shouldnt offer oxo a new deal till at least xmas next year. What is wrong with hungry players looking for a new contract? Look what it pushed nasri to last year and rvp to this year.
What's it pushed VP to this year? Scoring goals for fun? NAsri had half a good season and then was looking for a move.
Yup. i doubt rvp is suddenly amazing no by coincidence. he obviously knows a big years this year = more money for the next 5+ years. In sports such as baseball which are grounded in statistics it has been shown that players produce more when they are in their contract year (i.e. when contract due for renewal). The same will exist in football and this is probably a large factor behind rvp producing so much this season
Nah I don't think so. RVP was amazing last season too. It coincides with not being injured every other week
I keep an eye on press and reports of the Arsenal young players, but until we were interested in him, Oxo was not on my radar.
Seriously? You honestly don't think it could be the fact that he has been injury free this year? Most fans I think always knew he had the talent.
