I would be able to see the logic in them wanting to sell up (at most profitable following promotion) but I personally don't believe it will happen, especially after they have written off £33m

Lol do you really think that the Liebherrs are interested in a a few million pounds profit when the family is worth Billions already? jesus! That's like me having a thousand pound and then selling something to make 5 pounds! Just doesn't make that much of a difference! Also even though Markus has passed on do you not believe that the family and especially his Daughter would like to carry on his dream? i know i would if one of my parents left me something they had a passion for!

I can only see the club being sold once we're established in the Premier League. It would make no sense to sell anytime before.

This non-story is going to spread like a virus - That rag, the Echo will probably publish it very soon !

Cortese is going to be p**sed. He likes all business to be carried out behind closed doors and not in the public domain. Expect a club statement if this spreads.

I stated once we are premier league. We're not worth much at the moment, however when we get promoted, be it this season or next, we will be worth in excess of £100million.

You clearly don't have money, know how to invest. A few million? try £50million. 2/3years and £50million profit is exceptional business, no the daughter probably wouldn't carry it on if it was a burden to her other interests. Cortese would have someone else lined up to take control anyway.

The one thing I used to wonder about with Nicola was his insistence that there were people out there trying to undermine the stability of the club. But I should have had more faith in him because he's been right about everything else and he's right again. This is all unmitigated twaddle, and it seeks to put a spanner in the works. The best thing for the club wuld be to be left well alone and owned by the Liebherrs and run by Cortese.

Oh ok £50 million but realyl if you are a billionaire it doesn't really compute! They probably make that in interest in a year or possibly less! Burden to her other interests? correct me if i'm wrong but Nicola Corstese has said that he runs Southampton and makes all the decisions, that is hardly a big burden.

The club will be sold in the next few years, make no mistake. It just wont happen yet.

I still maintain my belief that Cortese and the Liebherr family have the aim of establishing the club in the Premier League and then selling up.

Forget all the talk of Champions League football etc, they will make sure the club is on a strong financial footing and be an attractive proposition for investors over the next couple of years and then sell up. They're not going to concern themselves with the burden of the added debt and expenditure that comes with chasing a top 4 finish because that's when things can become messy.

In a few years, the Liebherr family will make a nice tidy profit and The Don can retire early !

Only one thing needs to be read to know this was written in a coffee shop on a slow news day by someone thinking 'what else can I add to it....Hmm that sounds good'

It says Cortese's salary in the 2009/10 accounts was £1m without bonuses. Now I remember those on the uglyinside saying Cortese was worse than Lowe because he was getting £600k a year!!! So is it £600k as read by 'Saints fans' who hate Cortese and would surely inflate it to suit their cause or is it the £1m stated by someone who has no real interest in ousting Cortese.

Add to that the 20% lockdown. I don't believe that at all. Markus was a businessman, The Liebherr family are businessmen/women. What kind of business person would put a compensation figure as a percentage on something like a football club when it's value can rise so significantly. It wouldn't be 20% of ???? It would be morel likely set at 2 years salary or ????million or a percentage of previous year's turnover (and in the 5% or lower bracket)

The Liebherr's would've wanted £50m at a bare minimum for the club at midway through this season the position the team were in the league and would still have wanted to maintain some of the stake in the club as a safeguard to retrieve more money should the value suddenly rise on possible promotion. (Covering both bases)

That last statement is of course if they were wanting to sell which they obviously don't otherwise Cortese would've been told sorry mate....we are selling up soon so have worries about the future 20-30 years. The academy is already good enough so leave it as it is. If the new owners want a better academy they can pay for it.

I am pretty sure that the Liebherrs will eventually sell but as Nicola has stated he has contacts to step in, not some dodgy consortium of hedge fund directors (rings a bell - me thinks.) I would also think that the Liebherrs trust Cortese's business skills and trust him implicity to tell him what they plan knowing he will not be telling anyone else. They may get on, they may not, doesn't matter a jot in business. Get the best not the nicest.

No news, nothing to worry about Saints will be worth a lot more than £50m next year once you factor in TV money income is higher than that!!!

Shouldn't diss Gordon Gecko too much. won't quote but if the Liebherrs do intend to sell it will be as soon as we get to the Prem. You won't gamble on staying up no matter how confident you are. Going up the club will be in the 70m bracket I would think with it's extensive setup. It wouldn't just be a PL team in name. It has everything in place and one of the best academys around which would turn a profit too (if used in that manner.)

Put that against the risk of the club going back down and probably being worth less than it was half way through this season when promotion started to look a possibility.

Don't forget a billionaire in name but not normally in actual bankroll. A billionaires 'worth' is made up mainly of assets with a small amount being actual 'in the bank' and available. Billionaires become billionaires by making money!!! That is not normally from one single large business. It is by loads of separate little sections. I would suggest selling a club for £50m that you paid £14m for is a decent profit. They would also have a half paid loan owing to them as well ;)

Are you an idiot? how do you think £50million would be welcomed greatly. Burden financially, regarding investments. It's possible.

You don't get rich by spunking money away. Being a billionaire doesn't mean they have it all sitting in a bank account. If they wanted to sell, it would be for a lot more than £25m and I doubt they would have made a long term investment on the training ground.

You could give it more credence if there were hard details from official sources, I see none of this, I suspect it is pure nonsense.

And that Adam is why you will never be a millionaire!
The mentality of making a profit in business is like a drug otherwise everybody who had a successful business would make a couple of million then sell up and live on that. It's more than that its an addiction to success not to wealth, if I buy something for 10p and sell it for 50p it's still shows a great profit and good business sense. Your right they dont need the cash but then neither does Richard branson and I wonder how many planes he has added to his virgin atlantic this year or how many business's he has started or invested in.....

Oh that's why i'll never be a millionaire,oh thanks very much for that insightful opinion,i bow down to your superior knowledge.I think people are getting a little bit carried away with what i'm saying,i'm not sayng they won't want to make a profit, that would be daft but what i'm saying is Markus obviously loved our club, his Daughter and family would of seen that and would probably put Markus's wishes above any sort of profit that in the long run wouldn't really touches the finances of the family.
