Can't believe the number of knee-jerk reactions on here last night. I usually try to avoid coming on here immediately after a defeat, as many posters (myself included) may feel compelled to say things they haven't properly thought through. But I saw one comment suggesting we remove MON and replace him with Ancelotti in the summer... Admittedly it was a very poor performance and we were deservedly beaten by a superior Everton side on the night. But we did have 3 of our first choice defenders injured, and a few players just coming back from injuries/suspension. The Mags may crow as they always do, but I'd say their surrender to Brighton kind of forfeits any right to boast they may have, at least in terms of the Cup. The game against Man C at the weekend will be very, very tough, and we may suffer a heavy defeat. But after that I think we can push the Spuds all the way at home, then the game against Everton away will be a chance for revenge (where the pressure on the team won't be as great.) Even further down the line we have 4 very winnable games, before a game against Man United, where we may play a part in deciding the fate of the Premier League title. At this stage I'd settle for beating last season's points tally and league position. That'd carry on our recent upward trend of progress each season. We can then look forward to entering next season with a sense of stability and an excellent manager at the helm. Onwards and upwards!
It's a forum and people have the right to critise. Last night doesn't end anyones career or get our manager sacked. I don't think anyone is saying that but I paid good money to watch my team and felt let down, I cheered and sang all they way at the match last night. Surely I can point out a few flaws. I don't think I've been over the top in my assessment, I think it did show there is room for improvement but we all knew that anyway.
Wasn't singling you out concrete tony, people certainly have the right to come on here and vent, I just find sometimes people are feeling emotional after being let down by the team so badly, and tend to come out with ideas such as getting rid of the manager/half the playing staff. I went to the match as well and afterwards felt ready to criticise the manager and players, but it sometimes takes a night's sleep to look at things in a new, calmer perspective.
i still cant understand what happend...how did we play so bad we wasted 6 points possibly based on the fact the players were concetrated on this game
Let's look at it from a (sort of) positive way. The cup run lifted us all and kept our interest in the season, but it also papered a fee cracks where we overlooked a few inept performances. Now, we can all see clearly the missing ingredients of the side, and if we can, MON can. I don't believe for a second MON hasn't been promised a decent summer budget, and as its clear where we need strength, I think we have an exciting summer to look forward to, and a great season to envisage next time round. Some people will leave, but they will not be missed. The only worry is Sess, will he/won't he...
We have had some bad performances but we still have a few very average players in the squad on my opinion. I also think some have been leggy given the timing of some of our games and the fact MON has not been able to rotate much due to injury and a patchy squad. I had pretty much written this season off so to finish top 10 as I still think we will will be fantastic and then MON has a full summer and pre season to fully put his mark on the team..............good times ahead I think, have we ever been in a better position to genuinly progress, I can't think when.
I think we need 4, and that's not bad really. We know we need 2 strikers, we need a CB and we need either a right winger, or a CM with a good eye for a pass. That's assuming Bridge justifies a permanent transfer. This is what I think we need for a genuine Euro assault, so it's not a massive turnaround, and if we retain players, we should has strength in depth to boot.
I am convinced that M O will know where our problems are, better than us,and will bring in the players we need.Agree with MONsMush...three or four changes are more than enough!!
