Oh great. So, all the garages are running out of petrol. I've just been out to fill up and my local garage said they're not getting any more deliveries. Some garages in Watford are already closed. Apart from having to work, how am i supposed to get to Leeds on Saturday! Hmmpfh! Blinkin' strikers don't realise what they're doing
Which ones were closed? I noticed the Total one on St Albans Road was closed yesterday (Tuesday) morning, but there was actually a tanker there so I assumed they were simply restocking, and guessed that they probably routinely do that because of how hard it is to get a tanker in and out.
The Shell garages are closed at the Asda roundabout and in Croxley, they were the cheapest and the queues were mad today! I thought they were keeping stocks til the end of the week but apparently not ....
Hello all. Its been a busy day today, i have finished one assignment and got the names of some books to get for the next. I also managed to get to see Kiri for a little while as well. I am gutted about Kacaniklic getting called back, but if it means game time then go him!! I am over the moon at Murray signing a new deal. Its a great day for us.
Morning all - another fine morning in West West London....well done York, keeping the scummers out of the play-off group. H - I did not think there was any strike yet as Unite had not decided how to go ahead and I have not seen any other petrol stations closed..the 2 I pass in West West London this morning were open and the Esso garage on the A405 was open yesterday - maybe it's just a local Shell thing?

To all that gave me some advice re Voluntary Redundancy after my posting yesterday, thank you very much. I'm still torn as the package is good the only problem it has come a couple of years too early. I still have my pension from the job but had to finance the kids with a few bob for different reason and can't see that coming back too quickly. Still my better half said the choice was mine, so if I take the option and it goes tits up it will be my fault on the other hand if it turns out for the better (you've guessed it) it will be what she wanted us to do in the first place.
Sorry missed this yesterday..... I am at home this morning waiting for a letter that has been strongly rumoured to be coming..... I think they will be offering..... one year paid up.... which would take me to 60... pay the daughter and mortgage off.... and have a new start.... They have just announced the Govt funding to H E next year, where I work, and we have a 34% cut. . Don't want to talk politics but so far we have: changes to NHS changes to public sector pensions reductions in real terms to old aged pensions local rates of pay brought in ( which really means cost cutting) increased fuel levy.. Dont know if i can afford to retire!!!
Morning all, bright sunshine today and predicted for the next week which should keep Yorkie happy. Three small persons about to descend on us, so jobs will be on hold for a bit. No school Wednesdays for them, my daughter says that Thursday seems like Monday.
Morning all Summer appears to have arrived. Cleared a space ina border yesterday so off to the garden centre for some plants shortly. Might have to be cacti if the forecasts about continuing drought are accurate. I see England look on their way to another Test match defeat. They're clearly not happy being no 1 in the world...
Writing my dissertation, changed the guidelines on writing the thing to the 'Official University Guidelines' and the page count went from 21 to 28, brilliant!
For what it is worth here is my tuppence Back in January 2008 for the umpteenth time I was offered a package as part of a re-organsiation and did not want to relocate. I considered whether to retire early - I was coming up to57 - or seek another job. One big factor was my neighbour whose wife developed Alzheimers in her late 50s and within 4 years did not even know him and ended up in a home. He told me of the many plans they had for retirement which now were useless. I decided to retire - earlier than I planned so money would be tighter - I would live off savings till pensions kicked in. One year later Mrs L had a heart attack but got over it well. We moved here to Wales in January 2010 - stress free living - but by the end of that year she was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour - which weighed 3 and a half kilos - she had it removed at the start of last year together with a kidney, spleen, some colon and diaphragm. For 6 months we seemed all clear. Then the bad news - it had returned and was now also in the liver. Back to the Royal Marsden in London where tests show it is not curable or operable. There is a drugs trial which she has been put on which may slow or even halt the growths she now has. We have been going up to London almost constantly for screenings, blood tests scan and what have you. Each phase lasts 6 weeks and yesterday she has been told she need not return on this phase so we have 6 weeks before we have to go to London again - when they will scan to see if the drug has had any effect. We hope and pray. OK - so what am I trying to say - just this - you have no idea what lies around the corner for you. Do not leave it too late to start to enjoy life as YOU CHOOSE it. Luckily we have had 4 years now and at least two to three were fantastic. If you love your job and need the money they will be big factors - if you can slim down your needs - it is amazing what you can reduce to when retired if you want to - then go for it. Just my thoughts - sorry if it comes over as depressing
No need to apologise Lenny - it is sound advice from someone who is in a very difficult place that made some sound decisions a few years ago. I have been trying to stear Mrs W_Y in a direction to have those sorts of discussions as her parents are getting very frail and they should have made plans a few years ago... My thoughts and prayers are with you and Mrs Lenny...
Sorry about Mrs L My thoughts are with her and you it cannot be easy. I heard about someone this week who was on a course, he did not turn up one day and the staff were worried so they sent someone to find him. On entering his room he was found laying on his bed unable to move other than his eyes, he was diagnosed with a blood clot on the brain! He is only 49 years old, the same age as myself! You never know what is round the corner. I mentioned to Mrs PSH about retiring from the RAF at the same time as her in 2 and half years time, the silence and the tumbleweed that hit the room said it all. She then said why would you want to do that, your healthy(ish) and have a wage for the next 5 and half years guaranteed, why step into the unknown until absolutely necessary! I know that I will have to find alternative work when I do leave the RAF but I am lucky that my pension kicks in as soon as I leave the RAF but I will be still on the job market.
