with Wilshere coming back and Rosicky playing like his old self we no longer need Goetze. If we are to buy another midfileder i think a defensive mid would be a better option. Although I would be happy with a top class Defender and Striker. our team with backups.. ---------------------------------Sczezney(Mannone)------------------------------ Sagna(Jenkins)--Vertoghen(Merte)----Vermaelen(Koscielney)---Gibbs(Santos) ---------------Song(Frimpong/Vert)-------------Wilshere(Arteta)---------------- ------------------------------Rosicky(Ramsey)------------------------------------ Walcott(OXO)-----------VanPersie(Campbell/Podol)----------Podolski(Gervinho)
Disagree. Rosicky was THE best playmaker in germany when we bought him and Wilshere is as good if not better than mario Goetze. (who is excellent, i'll admit) Wilshere is easily best young midfielder in the Premierleague arguably Europe.(I would'nt swap him for Goetze, Ozil, Pastore or Thiago) Look at it this way. We could end up finishing third this time round probably around 10 points off the top of the table. Add a man who scored 20 goals this season from the left hand side (Podolski) and a defender good enough to keep Van Buyten on the bench (Vertonghen) and I think we'll be good enough to challenge. Not to mention the fact that Oxo will have had a year of Premierleague experience behind him (and may well be moved into an attacking midfield role).
I dont think we need an attacking playmaker. (We just sold arguably the 'best' one on the planet to Barcelona.) We just adjust our style and play a more of a direct game based on pace.(our 2003-2004 squad never had a playmaker as such. viera like Wilshere was more of a box to box player.) I'm a huge Wilshere fan and I dont think most Arsenal fans quite realise how good he is yet.
There could be a correlation, but there's an infinite number of other things that could also be the reason...
I certainly do - will be the best CM in the world inside 3 years if he keeps his head. Already world class.
Got to say, as much as Wilshere is a great midfielder, I still think we need to replace one of Fabregas and Nasri. Ideally the former. As well as Rosicky has been doing of late, he's 31 and the twilight of his Career. Arteta too probably only has 2-3 good seasons left in him and we need to be preparing for the future now. I like Ramsey, but he is a CM not an attacking MF. I still think we need an attacking creative midfielder to unlock teams with defence splitting passes and someone who can feed balls to RVP's feet (although big shout to Song for providing some great goal creating passes this season) For me Goetze would be a perfect acquisition. He's young and would be the final piece of our midfield jigsaw, developing alongside Wilshere, Ramsey, Song, Coquelin, Walcott and Oxo.
I don't actually think it's a creative midfielder we need - we have those already. We need a goalscorer from midfield.
Am i the only gooner who doesn't think Jack Wilshere is world class? He's a solid, dependable midfielder, but he doesn't boss the game, and is not really a playmaker, he's a jack of all trades, much like Song. Goetze is now unlikely, so a punt on somebody such as Gourcuff could be in order. I now he's been poor for Lyon, but the tools are there, he just doesn't use them, and Wenger could be able to get the best from him again.
He is not world class, yet. Let's not forget that last season was Jack's first full season for Arsenal. His game would have developed if he had stayed fit. Back in the youth days, Wilshere was a playmaker. Normally playing off the front man. The way he adapted to the new role last season was astonishing. He can boss games. He bossed Spurs in that Carling Cup game at WHL. Also he was brilliant in the home CL games. He has the passing to do it. He has the technical ability to do what he wants.
Yes, but so did Lansbury, and look where he's ended up. I think we tend to kid ourselves that Wilshere is the one missing piece this season. For me, he'll have to work his way into the starting lineup, the current 3 are settled and link up well. Wilshere walking straight into the starting 11 devalues the way this club operates.
Lansbury bossed nothing in that game. He was playing on the right and worked hard and made a good run for the goal. Wilshere was in the center and did control that game with his passing range. Wilshere is a brilliant player and we do not know what he could have developed into this season. He could have moved just into the Cesc role. Probably needed games to adjust but like I said he has the technical ability to do it. How many thought he could be a deep-lying playmaker? Not many. But he slotted in like an experienced pro. Wilshere will walk back into the team. He is the future of the club.
Barca will not sign him. They want their team run by their youth products. Thiago,Cesc,Busquets and Iniesta come to mind. One of the reasons, they wanted Cesc so badly was the whole 'bring him home' stuff. Like Pep said, 'we have many Wilshere's in Barca B'. As for City, well hopefully FFP will put a stop to their spending in the future.
I really can't see FFP being implemented properly. The corporate fatcats who own the clubs also happen to pay the wages of the UEFA members, so it's like going against your boss, and somehow not being fired. Plus there's numerous loopholes, e.g. the etihad sponsorship deal. Back to Jack, ok, if not Barca, then Real will come calling.
If they do we must resist. Also I like Jack a lot, but let's be honest he is your classic 'English lad' and he is not brightest spark off the pitch. I can't see someone like him moving abroad. English players rarely venture away from home as it is. They have the whole 'best league in the world' drummed into them.
Hopefully the day will never come, we'll be winning trophies, he'll stay, and people will be leaving Real madrid to play for the mighty Arsenal. (Unlikely but it makes me feel happy)
Every man has his price mate. We kid ourselves into thinking that loyalty is for ever, it's not, it's something that can be bought. Admit it, if you were offered 20 million a year to support Citeh, you would. It would be madness to turn it down.
