What you see here is the latest front cover to adorn Manchester United fanzine Red Issue – an image not mocking Fabrice Muamba, his collapse or his plight, but instead chastising the ‘grief mongering’ that has surrounded it for the past week or so…

It’s near the knuckle, controversial, provocative and tasteless (that’s the kind of material Red Issue tend to trade in) but there is a valid point to be made about the ‘I care most’ simpering that can permeate this kind of thing – only Red Issue have set about eviscerating that point with a supreme lack of tact.

Safe to say, had a United player collapsed last week, their little speech bubbles may have not been quite so flippant.

It’s oh, so easy to be snide, crass and cynical when ‘football comes together’ like it has to show united support for Muamba – granted, I personally felt the shirts, flowers and scarves laid down reverentially outside the Reebok were and are a bit mawkish and premature – but the fact is that a young man nearly died and people are doing what they can to wish him well. There’s not much wrong with that, however glib it may appear to the enlightened sceptic.

The lad behind me was slating the applause and all the hype surrounding Muamba's collapse saying "bet he's glad he didn't collapse at home as he'd be ****ing dead - why are we giving a minutes applause for him it's ****ing stupid"

Now while the fanzine is a bit too much but, as you say comm, the flowers etc all linked with morbidity that have been put out this week are a little OTT IMO.

Now the lad behind me saying he was lucky it happened on a football pitch and wondering why we are goiving a minutes applause needs a kicking (but he;'s a lot bigger than me) and he throws his weight around all the time but his comments are out of order about Muamba in my opinion - the bloke is alive and his heart stopped on the pitch so surely show him some ****ing respect

Haven't read the article but the general premise behind it is actually pretty spot on. We live in a nation - hell a world - of knee-jerking and ****ing pathetic holier-than-thou moralising. We saw this recently with that stupid 'Kony' thing on the internet.

Where the cover's concerned, believe me I have a dark sense of humour but only if the jokes are actually funny, which this isn't. Just comes across as a blatant attempt to court controversy and gain notoriety and it's working for them.

    With Regret!

Whitney Houston's death, while a sad thing, was the direct result of very unwise life choices.

    It dominated the news.

Charlie Sheen is 45 and his story is all over the news because he is a
substance abuser, an adulterer, sexually promiscuous and obnoxious.

Lindsay Lohan is 24 and her story is all over the news because she is a
    celebrity drug addict and thief.

Amy Winehouse’s story was all over the papers and shoved down our throats as she was a singer and ‘celebrity’ and a substance abuser.

Something as frivolous as Kim Kardashian's stupid wedding [and short-lived marriage] was shoved down our throats. While the following

    Justin Allen 23
    Brett Linley 29
    Matthew Weikert 29
    Justus Bartett 27
    Dave Santos 21
    Jesse Reed 26
    Matthew Johnson 21
    Zachary Fisher 24
    Brandon King 23
    Christopher Goeke 23
    and Sheldon Tate 27...

are all British Royal Marines who gave their lives last month for you. There is no media for them; not even a mention of their names.

Honour THEM by sending this on. I did, will you?
