All religious/disabled related jokes aside, is Glenn Hoddle a realistic Caretaker Manager for the England team this summer?

His record is actually pretty good with the National team.

Nah not for me, his man management is shocking, which is what England need if we are to do well

It's been quite some time since he was a football manager, not sure what his involvement with football (if any) has been, apart from the occasional bit of football punditry,
    definitely a no from me.
He doesn't strike me as influential, or a strong leader, we need a stronger character to take over the reins.

Said it for a while, he was top class as England manager. Everything Chelsea became was built on his foundations too. Disagree with how he lost his job despite what I may think of any beliefs he held. Can he do it now? Hard to say. Obviously he has been out of management for a while. He has been working in football with his academies etc so its not like he has lost contact with the sport. If it was club management I think it would take him a while to get in the swing of things, but with the national team its less of a problem. Seems to find it easy to get along with players. Not afraid to make the tough calls aswell like Gazza. 60% win ratio is the key thing that makes him a definite option for the job.

He was doing very well before his sacking.

I think we could alot worse than Hoddle - Pearce has said he thinks the job is too much for himself...:emoticon-0143-smirk

We played lovely football under him too. His understanding of continental styles of football, combined with his intelligence helped us tweak our normal game to fit international football. He'd have the same problem as any manager now, tired players. On the flipside our engine room should be pretty fresh if we choose to use the likes of Gerrard, Wiltshire, Cleverley.

Actually thought Hoddle did well for England, he's an idiot but his personal views shouldn't come into it. However misguided, offensive and poorly-reasoned they are, it was not a crime for him to voice them.

I don't know about now though, there are certainly worse choices though. I think we need someone who's willing to wield the axe and stand up to our uppity arsehole players and get backed for it, would Hoddle be that man?

Trouble with Hoddle was his man management skills were shocking when dealing with players with limited ability. This is why he struggled at Wolves and Tottenham. He did really well at Chelsea, England and Southampton because he has good players at his disposal. People might question Southampton here but he had the likes of Beattie, Pahars, Lundekvam, Richards, Oakley all at their best they were very good Premier League players.

I actually think he would do well for England. Unfortunately he has been out of football at the top level for too long which makes him a risk that the FA won't have the balls to take.

as a neutral - (irish) i think england played their best under him and SBR in recent years. with the england job the biggest enemy of all is the press, the next manager would need to be able to deal with them and all the pressure dished out, which is why i still think arry is the man for it.

It's a good point about the modern media - they were bad enough back in 2006 when all the controversy hit, imagine what they'd be like with Hoddle these days!.

Give it to Ron Atkinson if we're setting aside 'personal issues'.
