Well well well. Only my third away game, but a good performance ensured my lucky charms overrode Town's abysmal away form. All in all, it was a complete case of a game of two halves. I won't do any ratings because it's nigh on impossible with those inconsistency levels in a game - even Richards was poor in the first half. Anyway, we got off to a slow start, nothing of note really happening in the opening 20 minutes until a nice move ended with the ball falling for Dave McAllister, who steamed his volley fractionally wide. That served as a wake-up call to the hosts, and the Shrews struggled to pin them back, with Kevin Ellison, the pantomime villain, getting booed and also playing fairly well. Indeed it was Ellison who came close to breaking the deadlock, the ball bouncing kindly for him but he failed to get sufficient power on his strike, and Neal was down smartly to turn it around the post. Town still struggled to create, with their best opportunity coming when Gornell chased Collins' delightful flick and got a cross in, but Town couldn't get a strike away. There was a bizzare incident when Richards controlled the ball back to Neal with his thigh and the keeper picked it up - a clear passback (right in front of us) which the ref failed to give, thankfully. After one rampage from Grandison, Town did their best to go into the break a goal down with Neal having to save well from an awful back-header from Sharps that went for a corner, and a touch from SCS when he should have just headed it clear allowed them in. Somehow, we survived and went into the break undeservedly level. Second half was brilliant. My disappointment at the tasteless pie was forgotten when we created chance after chance, with Collins chastising Wroe for shooting (a good effort) from 25 yards when he should have passed, before proceeding to do exactly the same himself. However, Collins, who looked in the mood, got his goal when he controlled Sharps' exquisite dinked pass superbly, before picking his spot and lashing the ball home. Town were buoyant, but then Taylor's supreme act of idiocy got him sent off. I think we were lucky to still have 10 men - Collins (already booked) smashed the ball away as Taylor headbutted their player (who, kudos to him, didn't exaggerate it) and was lucky not to be sent off for a second yellow. Anyway, we held on, with Neal being forced into a stunning save after a failiure to charge down a player, but a win is a win.
I thought Morecombe did good pies? Perhaps I'm thinking of another ground... Nice write up Lenny and hope you enjoyed the trip. Well done to town for getting the win, roll on Tuesday.
They were supposed to, but they were nothing special in my eyes. A selection of two, and my dislike for Leeks narrowed it down to just a meat and potato. I don't see why you'd put potato in a pie in all honesty! Anyway, it was a good away day. Looking forward to Macclesfield now!
I went to New Zealand a few years back and they do great pies, they did a shepards pie in a pie crust - gorgeous!!
Sounds great! I do love a bit of Shepherd's Pie, extra gravy and onions and less mash when I make it!
Sounds as though there was more choice than Plymouth. They had run out of sausage rolls an hour before the kick off.
On a par with Hereford and their "we haven't got any burgers. Nope, no pies either. Sorry, we're out of coke. Was that salt and vinegar you wanted? Sorry, we don't stock them, too dangerous"
another excellent report. as for pies, a genuine ginsters cornish pasty would be nothing without taters. ask argyle and then duck
