Have you seen the state that liverpool are in, if we were to be in that position it means rvp and vermalen would leave and we would be unable to adequately replace them with no european football period. People can talk about trophies all they want but in all honesty nobody gives a **** about the carling cup, over getting 3rd spot and automatic champions league qualification, also with the form we are in if we add a couple of quality players who knows where we can go next season whereas i think that liverpool will continue to go downhill especially after the money they have recently spent over the years. Winning probably the worst trophy out of the 4 we are competing for means nothing if we lose our best players and are unable to replace them and then subsequently finish next season trophy-less and mid table. God people are so narrow minded and dont look at the big picture.
i dont envy pool's position, you've basically made a huge loss on Henderson, Caroll, Downing and Adam because someone thought it would be a good idea to pay 3x their actual value. So where do you get another wad of cash to buy better players and push up the league. FA Cup is a trophy worth winning, but the carling cup? no chance.

Would you take FA cup and League cup over Champs League? Or FA Cup, Champs League semi, and 5th place over a Champs league spot?
I think that these days clubs which consider themselves as competing for the two main competitions, the CL and the league, can't consider the FA Cup, the League cup or the Europa Cup, anything more than a distraction or a consoliation prize. The only way you are happy with these other things is if you didn't think your team is really competing for the main prizes. I don't think that if Arsenal had won the league cup every year for eight years, Arsenal fans would really be happy. It might make the, haven't won a trophy in... taunts go away, but it wouldn't do much else.

November 2011: Played 6,Won 4,Drew 1 and lost one. We were pretty good then, well good form anyway. So wrong. March 2012: OTT. I am one of the mods here and I read most of things that is written by fellow gooners, we feel that we have done really well to turn it around and feel 3rd would be great considering how the season started. We hope that we can build on it for next season. Liverpool are indeed ****. You got one thing right, at least. On the rest, well done for predicating the future. You must be a bit special.
My position on this is that i'd rather finish 3rd than win the FA cup. 3rd means CL, which means higher income, which leads to better players on long term contracts. Silverware would be nice, but in the long term view, i would take top 4 all day long.
