For those that sign on from work

Hi Guys and Gals
I have had a lot of pm's from people saying they can no longer get onto the site from their work computer's asking why.
Below is a reply from the chief Guru for the whole Forum and his reply to questions asked on a moderators only Forum.
It will perhaps also answer some of the questions into why we have the occasional slow downs.
Anyway I thought you might like to read and understand some of the problems of running a site such as ours.

Around 300,000 individuals visited our site within 3 days. A lot of those people were visiting from work and they were searching for a sex video. A number of workplace IT administrators have probably had a quick look at what their employees were Googling and clicked the 'Porn' button because they have never heard of us and didn't know what we are. These work filters are shared (for instance I couldn't get on from work from the day I joined my new company because the company Websense had blocked the site due to the number of blocks from other workplaces).

I'll repeat that if you look at some of the biggest web forums online (the likes of Digitalspy which I have posted links to) you will see the content is no different to our own. Some celebrity exposes him/herself and people want to discuss it on the general chat area. For all the sticks we can genuinely beat General Chat with I feel this would be a harsh one since everyone else was talking about the subject.

In terms of how we get around this, I'm going to try configure a new domain for my own purposes as well as others so that it won't be flagged by the workplace filters. It's a few weeks off though

 

Shouldn't they be doing what their bosses pay them to do instead....

 

It should be quite simple to set up an alternative URL.

I vist a few sites that have a work sounding address (officeoffline is an alt for a video games forum for instance).

Nah, it was a link to a site. It attracted 10k guests within 30minutes.

 

All I know is the servers alarm bells went off and the site actually shut down for a while.......there were messages flying around like you would not believe......

 

The thread itself has had half a million views Most of the thread is just pointless patter too.
