    From the Sunday Mirror.....

Joey Barton was at the centre of more controversy at Sunderland yesterday – despite being axed by QPR.

Former Newcastle schemer *Barton, relegated to the Rangers bench, made 5-1 gestures as he warmed up.

Barton’s *gesture – referring to the Magpies’ win at St James’ Park in which he played – sparked anger among the home fans. A steward reported Barton’s antics to Sunderland’s stadium control and the QPR bench were requested to ask him to stop inciting supporters.

The QPR club captain, subbed in the midweek win over Liverpool and booed by fans, faces a possible FA probe.

Barton later tweeted “Very, very *disappointed,” but his actions didn’t help on a bad day for QPR. Defeat keeps them in relegation trouble, and *Djibril Cisse – sent off for the second time in five games – faces a four-match ban.

    From the Mail...... Even funnier!

Barton takes Twitter sabbatical, but not before likening Sunderland to Deliverance

Prolific tweeter Joey Barton has decided to take a break from the social networking site, but the QPR midfielder bowed out in his own inimitable style, aiming a broadside at the city of Sunderland.
After airing his frustrations at being an unused substitute for QPR's 3-1 reverse at the Stadium of Light, the controversial 29-year-old said:
'Reminds me of a film this 5under1and place.........can't think which one. #thedeliverance.'

Getting to know you: Joey Barton (right) shares a moment with the Sunderland faithful
Prior to the match, Barton tweeted his frustrations at not making boss Mark Hughes's first XI.
'All time low.........2 ways out. 1.Work hard 2.Worker harder', and 'Very, very disappointed.'
And in what Barton claims will be his final missive for a while, Barton went on to say: 'Going to take a little twitter sabbatical before I say something I'll end up regretting. Have a good few weeks people.'

I didn't think you would, you've got much better without him.

He has been abysmal for us this season, still he may look quite good in the Championship next season.

Class comeback from Joey to the Mackems who were giving him stick. As usual, they have no sense of humour and have reported him.

They can dish it out but they can't take it.

We would all echo that in W12. I can only think that he is still looking for players in black and white stripes to pass to because he certainly isn't passing to those in blue and white hoops!

Quality from Barton, they needed reminding of that humiliation. Sunderland are a right bunch of beeling babies. They can't take a bit of banter now? He's right about deliverance too.

I've been suprised by how poor he has been this season. As a player i thought we would miss him and, given how poor our right wing is at times i'd suggest we could have done with the Barton from last season on at times.

That said, his attitude was questionable and he ruffled feathers inside and outside the dressing room so may have impacted badly on our team spirit (which has been amazing this season). We are better off without him it seems, but i didn't think that would be the case when we let him go. Another great decision by the people in charge at the club, yes you read that correctly, regarding on field matters they've been pretty impressive for a couple of years now.

He shouldn't have done it, the referee should have booked him. However how many players wind opposing fans up and never get banned.

It's bad enough the fans reporting it, even worse the steward taking action.

    Cotton wool springs to mind...

Good on Joey Barton. He gets a bit of banter and returns it with interest. So the mackems claim offense! Knackers!

I know we've moved on, but after 3 years of waste from Barton, he did have a good final year, which helped make Liverpool part with £35m for Carroll. Some of that money went towards Cisse don't forget.

Hopefully when QPR go down, he'll come back to the Prem with another club.

I'd have him back in a flash. Far better than anything we've got on the right. I love his passion.

Say what you like about Barton, but he enjoyed his time here and always seems to want us to do well.

He was utter trash for 3 seasons, spending most of the time injured or in prison. First few games of the Championship season before he got injured it was if he was doing it on purpose, he was that bad.

Had a good season last year, finding his niche as a basic right midfielder knocking balls onto Carroll's head. That went towards paying back a little bit of the millions we'd paid for the rubbish we'd got previously, but not in Joey's eyes - he thought it was enough to get him a bumper new contract for the rest of his career.

Good riddance, average footballer who's hero worship just before he left was cringeworthy in the extreme.

Good footballer. Once he got over his off field issues and injuries here, he did very well. Things didn't work out for a number of reasons (some he would have to hold his own hand up to), but was very committed and played some lovely stuff with us. Obviously both sides were at fault but everyone has moved on now, no harm done. He was often responsible for getting us to get the ball down and play. Had a bit of a troubled time at QPR and has had plenty of issues away from the field again due to his twitter love. A right midfielder for me whatever he might think. Had a great passion for the club which has clearly lingered on.

What is the world coming to when a player can't have a bit of banter with opposing fans or fans he's familiar with who are abusingthe hell out of him? We've lost the plot in this country, right bunch of pansies.
