You really couldnt ask for a better run in than ours. We have to play 4 of the bottom 6. Pompey, Coventry, Millwall and Forest. Or 5 of the bottom 8. Barnsley are sinking like a stone. Then Watford who are 13th. Then Boro at home and the last game of the season, when it should be done and dusted West Ham. You cant ask for a better run in than that to reach the play offs. So why does it feel like our season is over??
Because we go to every home game full of hope anticipating that the much waited for goalfest is going to begin. We tell ourselves that these draws can't continue and at some point our luck will change. We all hope that after another draw and us being the better team with nothing to show for it the manager will have a re-think about how to play. We have had our confidence in the team knocked so much that we dare not imagine success. I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter, its only a game and if we are in the Championship next year then that will be fine, another year's experience for our young team, except how many will still be here next year, do we have to start from scratch again. It really does matter doesn't it because at the start of the season every team's aim should be to get up to the top and gain promotion, not just to settle for middle of the table but to achieve something and we know that on paper our team should be getting up there, they have flashes of brilliant play but it all comes to a very very frustating end and we are all a bit sick of it. Still I won't give up until after the next couple of games have been played.
Birmingham Cardiff drew 1-1 today ...perfect result .. still all to play for .. just have to find a way to score goals!!
as i said 3-4 games back we will find ourselves mathematically out of a chance of the playoffs with 1 game to go :/ tho i think IF we can get in the playoffs we would win it
Teams near the bottom are the worst ones to play near the end- they're fighting like **** to stay up.
for me it feels like that because of how we lost yesterday and tuesday.. as ive said a few times, losing the 2 fixtures on the face of it is no disgrace, but you at least go down fighting, not with a massive whimper.. we should have been throwing the kitchen sink at them yesterday, and if we conceded a 3rd on the break, so be it...i cant remember ever seeing a side see out 30 minutes with 10 men so comfortably....that gives me no hope whatsoever we can score enough goals in the final games to get us there, too much emphasis on pretty triangles, and not enough urgency to get it in the onionbag.
Teams near the bottom are hard to play because they're fighting for their lives. Teams with nothing to play for are hard because they have no pressure on them, eg Ipswich. Teams in and around the play offs are hard because they're good sides who want to nail down a play off place. Teams fighting for automatic are hard because they're the best in the division and want to be named champions. Your logic out of context doesn't work.
That's optimistic. Without Koren we haven't a player willing to shoot let alone score which might make it difficult to win as it has most of the latter part of the season. Now the defence are starting to leak the odd goal then wins will be at a premium. I'll wait and see what happens with the next two games. Win them, convincingly, and we might have a chance but I'm not sure I even want the premier league yet
I'd rather play teams that have something to play for, it means they have to go out and try and win the game giving a more open game which suits us.
We need to be positive.. the games yesterday and today went for us - Josh King is getting better week by week and may yet prove to be our ace card in the final 8 games. I don't think 75 points wil be needed to grab 6th spot now.. some on this board are saying the likes of TWS and Derby might grab a playoff spot - yet they can only get 78 pts and 75 pts respectively if they win all their remaining games... As Matty Fryatt alluded to in his post match interview we need to take a hard look at ourselves and change the set up if we're gonna make the playoffs..
what did barmby say in his interviews? did he finally admit we have a slight problem, or where we "unlucky" again?
Good post. Bottom line is, those with the biggest wedding tackle come through. Pure and simple. The one thing I hope for now is that Reading go up automatically with Soton, West Ham lose in the play-offs to...................anybody and TWS are hit by a nasty case of Lassa Fever which they give to Lesteristan.
Fair post, though if we did sneak inot the play offs i wouldnt wanna meet W Ham. Oh and the only Stan that is funny is Laurel.
I havent heard Fryatt's interview but I can hardly blame him for being pissed off. I remember even Pearson saying Matty doesnt like one up front. He must feel like everyones blaming him for our lack of goals but he has a fair amount for the season.
I've also got £20 riding on Matty to score 15 goals that I bet with a guy in my local after he missed a couple of one on ones in the televised home game against Blackpool at the start of the season. Come on Nick, give the lad some support...
It's never over till the fat lady sings, and hopefully this fat man (me) will be singing when we scrape the play-offs UTT!
